15927575 No.15927575[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

Its been 15 years since picrel was published and so far there is no sign that any of it's ominous predictions are going to come true. Sea level hasn't risen an inch, no ecosystems have collapsed or are on the verge of doing so, the Greenland and the Antarctic ice sheets have all accumulated mass over the past several years. When are the global warming hysterics and doomsday cult leaders going to finally admit that they were wrong?

>> No.15927924

Back in the late 80s Hansen predicted 10m sealevel rise by 2100. Of course he knew he would be dead long before 2100, so theres no personal risk to his reputation making a claim like that, but 35 years later and sea level isn't even up a centimeter, so its clear that he is wrong

It's because it's a field of "study" that exists as a pretext for expansion of economic control policy. This became obvious to me in undergrad when I spent a few weeks on measuring and calculating greenhouse gas effects of various substances and never once was it demonstrated or even suggested how an absolute calculation for heat retention might be calculated, only relative effects of gasses compared to other gasses.

But they ARE coming true? Are you stupid? The only way you can possibly win this argument is by ignoring data.

At no point did Hansen say "if we don't reverse climate change we'll all be dead in 15 years" or whatever else you're going to try and crowbar into his statements. He said that if we don't reverse course now we'll be in serious trouble later. Which is still true. Our burning of fossil fuels over the last 20 years has effectively "bought" a change of 2-3 degrees warming over the next 100 years. We cannot stop that now. What we CAN do is mitigate the damage, prepare for what's coming, and try and stop further warming in the centuries to come. All of this you would know if your information wasn't from denialist blogs and 4chan threads.

You are a fool who does not understand anything. Global warming is a positive feedback loop.

Once anyone sees the 1st signs of global warming, it will already be too late. Once it starts, there's no power on Earth that'll stop it. Deep sea methane will melt, and boil to the surface. Permafrost will unfreeze, and release C02 that's been trapped for centuries, or millennia. Jet streams will be altered, mixing hot climates with cold air and cold climates with hot air.

When tiny patches of forests start to disappear, that's when people mass starvation hits. It's common knowledge that the roots of forests alter the soil to benefit plant growth, both by providing nutrients with fallen leaves and by holding soil with roots preventing erosion, but they do more than that. Forests change the weather itself. Trees suck moisture out of the dirt, draw it up to their leaves and breath it out. They create the very rain clouds they need to survive. The rain clouds that WE need to survive.

Sure, but that relies on plethora of things that are constantly changing (resources abundance, R&D, consumption rates etc.). The most basic knowledge of botany would tell you that as CO2 rises plants become more efficient at producing products and yes, sequestering CO2. It will be trivial for advanced technology of the Homo Sapiens to counter what little increase in CO2 we get. Plants can even be GMO'ed to make this more efficient. Also despite what YouTube tranny ThunderB00bs says trees can be mass planted to sequester carbon and we just need to revert back to using wood for all our products. Wood furniture and wood homes. They can even make skyscrapers out of wood already and with some work we can improve on the height of such structures so we can still have hyper productive cities. This solves his issue with carbon sequestered in lumber being re-released when that wood decays. Since we use it in homes it's likely that wood won't get disposed of and release it's captured carbon until decades or centuries later. This should allow us to tailor the level of CO2 in the atmosphere to whatever level we want. Please note that in horticulture, growing weed, you want to up the CO2 levels to maximize yields. So we are talking about higher CO2 directly leading to the end of all world hunger, so much produce it's basically free as the world population levels out around 10-12 billion people. We will also have near limitless lumber to build homes for those 10+billion people. We will need that higher CO2 level to feed those people. It's gaseous fertilizer and it's basically made free from our industrial waste and used to fuel materials for buildings/homes and progress of all humanity.

Ironically reverting to old style wood based lifestyle is the answer. The problem is this won't make The Elites rich. It's a decentralized low tech solution with minimal profits....so they don't talk about it and never will. Instead they advocate strip mining the Earth's Crust for lithium.

Define most. Narrow down that ridiculously broad range.

It was 8C in the UK today. Tomorrow is a high of 8, day after is 7, day after that is 5, and day after that is 3

Define what it means to live like an asshole.
And by the way, how come it’s only the lower classes that need to change how they live? Your politicians could hold conferences online, and yet they insist on flying around the world every week. What’s that about huh? Your produce could be grown domestically, and yet your supermarkets are growing food in one part of the world, and then shipping it to another hemisphere entirely to be packaged before it comes to you. Who asked them to do that? And for all the talk of rising sea-levels, I don’t see any billionaires abandoning their sea-front properties, no matter how many times they bring up climate change at The Oscars.

You’re being tricked.

Maximally wasteful. 20 miles or 20 minutes to work. 5% consuming 95% of the resources. Because the middle class was a mistake, and the tinest minority of bad actors don't matter. The net behavior of 300 million nobodies, is the only thing that matters. It's amazing how much your stupid jealousy has made you so myopic.

There isn't enough heavy metals in soils to sequester it all. We would have to put all the metals in coal and oil into fertilizer, and prevent their loss into the oceans. Then we might not even have a problem in the first place, as all the CO2 would get used up. But we do the opposite, so we are fucked. It's only a matter of time before plants stop growing at all.

Cool, a yet another unfeasible solution. I'll add it to the pile
