I have lost a lot of weight (around 85 kg) and was recommended plastic surgery for removing excessive skin. However, I am not convinced that the surgery is safe or preferable to just ignoring the excess skin. Opinions?

It depends. Sometimes the excess skin can gather moisture more easily in the creases and give you persistent fungal infections, or even staph growth.

The skin will heal eventually but it could take a very long time depending on how fat you were, and how old you are. Better nutrition will speed up the recovery, but you probably know about that already. But it's a fairly simple surgery AFAIK

You can sell that excess skin to men that want foreskin restorations. Your excess skin is excess gold, or excess foreskin, whichever you prefer

You're just starved, you actually need mercury to get rid of it. You are still technically obese, only the tissues atrophied from the starvation.

don't let doctors touch you, if you have surgery theres a good chance you'll end up with an infection and die as a result of the surgery. "medical misadventure" is one of the most common ways people die, having surgery is as much of a health risk as having a heart attack or getting cancer, if not worse.

Surgery is too scary. I believe they have to make rather large incisions for that procedure too. I would try to find some other way to deal with it.
