What would happen if you collided particles with a human standing in the LHC? What kind of damage would it do? How many times could you do it until they died?

>> No.1591745

You'd be dead, I'm pretty sure.

THEY WOULD BE VAPORIZED IMMEDIATELY

i doubt the particles would actually do anything

the other shit going on that accelerated the particles in the first place would probably fuck a person up though

>> No.1591755

there was some accident once with a guy having his hand in the way of a particle accelerator, it got serve burns I think.

having that the particles are actually accelerated in а vacuum environment, without oxygen...what do you think?

Not the mention the temperatures required to maintain superconductivity to the accelerators magnets. Hint: it's below room temperature

My physics teacher visited CERN. He said there was massive concrete blocks they use for the sort of "escape route" as it were. Like if something went wrong they channel the beams down there and out of the ring into the concrete.

They're moving so fast that they have a really high Kinetic energy, and I can't remember how he described the impact points but it was definitely visible. Like a bullet hole I think (all from one proton)

One proton at 12TeV has nowhere near the KE of a bullet.

They don't accelerate -one- proton, but a stream If I'm not horribly mistaken

You would die a very horrible and painful death. The machine that Bugorski stuck his head inside of was much much much much much less powerful then the LHC.

>> No.1593093

>>1593084
You are not horribly mistaken, but the poster said all from one proton. Also the total energy isn't really high enough to blow a hole in concrete I wouldn't imagine.

>> No.1593120

>>1593093

Maybe it was the whole stream then

Or the teacher was exaggerating.

This is what happens when you stick your head in a particle accelerator, you just have to wait around 2 hours for it to kick in.

Right, it all comes down to how many protons they are accelerating. To have similar effects to the russian who stuck his head in the proton beam, they'd have to be accelerating a similar amount. I'm not sure how much they use at a time in the LHC, although I'm sure I've read it in the past.

>> No.1594134

They zap people with particle accelerators everyday, read into proton therapy for cancer treatment. If you have prostate cancer they direct a beam of protons straight up yo asshole.

Iron Maiden aproves

BTW i read somewhere in LHC are building tunes full of grafite to stear beams when they become unstable.

Beacouse fo so concentrated enery they will be several hundred meters long :)
