Are they helpful to the scientific progress or are they just a meme? If they are truly intelligent then why doesn't science use them as some kind of atomic weapon needed to be thrown onto a problem when you need an answer fast?

Part of the collective human organism is the appearance of outliers, amplified by the shear number of people who can survive in the modern world. In terms of probability, most of these outliers will not be helpful to our advancement.
