N-1 was such a clusterfuck of a project. It was initially designed as a Mars fly-by mission (requires less fuel, believe it or not). Then Korolev died and the Soviet government told the designers that it needs to be a Moon landing now. The whole thing was rushed into oblivion due to such a sudden change and obviously never bore fruit.

Have they even verified the booster can take off, fly to separation altitude and land without carrying a Starship? Seems like they should do that first before doing an integrated flight test of the entire assembly. You know, crawl, walk, run?
