No, I dont believe in evolution because it makes sense.
I do so because it means that my acestors were smarter and thougher than anyone else.
I don't believe our solar system formed in billions of years because there is proof. I do so because it means I'm made of starstuff.
I don't believe in the big bang because it is most likely true. I do so because it says the universe was created in a FUCKING HUGE SUPER COOL EXPLOSION! (I know BB wasn't an explosion etc. but they don't)

That clip doesn't even make any sense.

As a Eurofag I did know this creationism thing existed in the US, but after coming to /sci/ and seeing these clips being posted I must say I'm a bit terrified. The worst thing is that they continue to say "there is no evidence" while completely ignoring mountains of evidence.

Because Creationists don't check scientific journals, one would imagine.

I've been thinking of my own days in high-school and being frustrated about so many questions about science not being answered that I wanted to know and having to do all the research myself. I've been thinking of going back to my school and offering to give them a box for kids to put questions in and then make a five minute video giving them answers.

I figure it might help us avoid this shit in future. Plus, it's good resume fodder.

I am in no way religious and think that a creation scenario is unlikely, but I really don't understand how people can think that things like the grand canyon and other geological sources can definitively disprove creationism.

Because I'm pretty sure that a hypothetical entity capable of creating an entire fucking universe could probably make a precarved grand canyon that we wouldn't have to wait around for for millions of generations.

Evolution=/=Big Bang

I don't care what you believe, just don't try to corrupt other minds. What I'm about to say next is going to garner a lot of rage, but... Science and Religion can work together. Some people need the comfort that SOME religions provide, with the sense of community and comfort with death, but you don't have to shun practical theories.

Alright.

(X + s + i + p) x (m + 1)

Doctrinal belief is clearly literal interpretation of Genesis, so X = 2.

There's a total lack of understanding in the area being discussed but no specific scientific laws are refuted. It fits neatly into a 4 for s.

I'd give the statements involved an 8 on the idiocy scale. Anyone who thinks for more than five minutes about this or does two seconds of research will find an answer. It's not calling a banana God's soda can, though.

Paradox seems to be 3 here, since they offer no evidence as to why the Flood could do this and not just obliterate the rock entirely. Or as to why it could cut this path to begin with. I'll offer a margin of error in my final results for this, though.

I'll rate mendacity as 0, due to Hanlon's razor.

So, the results are... (2 + 4 + 8 + 3) * (0 + 1), or 17 on the Hovind Scale. If I'm wrong on the Paradox, it's only 14.

The scale runs into a problem when one realizes that mendacity is difficult to assess in something like this case. The maximum an honest person can score is 20 on the scale, however, which means this is certainly one of the worse Creationist statements.

Theism can survive with science, after all, science can't and likely will never be able to explain why the universe was created, you can fill in what you believe there. But many religions are simply not compatible with science. The big three (islam, judaism and christianity) are the worst offenders. You can only really believe in science or one of these religions. If you half-pie it and believe some science and some religion, you're a slut, make up your mind and get off the fence, they can't all be true.
