You know that famous chart of human knowledge with the giant crater caused by the dark ages? Someone should make that for science in general and how much particle physics has retarded progress.

Imagine that there is one group of people who have the greatest potential to figure out how to harness nuclear power either by fission or fusion and by doing so create a future for mankind with limitless available energy and this group of people are given virtually limitless resources with which to work their magic and instead of concentrating on their one worthy goal they spend all of their time and energy looking for new particles to name after themselves.
To engage in such an irresponsible and dumb waste of their resources you'd almost have to guess that people who were making fortunes selling the limited and restricted conventional energy resources that are currently available were bribing the physicists to avoid the one key issue that they could usefully contribute to civilization by solving.

To be fair, the construction of the ISS showed exactly how future interplanetary spacecraft should be constructed. There has been some value in going out and testing various engineering principles.
The problem is all NASA and the ESA want to do is play with their dicks, because doing anything else is costly and risky.

The LHC discovered the Higgs, measured several decay channels which can be measured (H->ee for example can't be measured at the LHC due to the low branching ratio), verified the couplings predicted by theory, verified the cross sections and differential cross sections in all relevant phase space regions. Also all of that for the rest of the Standard Model. That was basically done at CMS and ATLAS. That also gave us constraints for Beyond Standard Model physics. The same at LHCb, meson CP violation was measured, also rare decays of these mesons which are sensitive to BSM physics (new particles). There are several differences between the experiment and the Standard Model that are still unresolved.
If you're working on this stuff, you realize that there are important results published every month.
If you're just watching the news, waiting for the pee pee poo poo dark matter particle to be discovered and that's your only metric for progress, you think that nothing has happened in the last 10 years since the Higgs discovery. You are trusting pop sci journalists to inform you about what about what is going on.
It's like saying medicine research is useless because cancer hasn't been cured yet.

You have a bigger bomb, cheaper energy and almost a time machine because of the LHC. Just because you cannot understand the implications, does not mean bigger bombs aren't being built. ESPECIALLY after 9/11, and then again under Obama, the US has completely rebuilt it's nuclear arsenal at least twice just to incorporate new physics discovered by the LHC and others. Biden is doing it a third time as part of the nuclear supply chain reconstruction project begun in 2021. It's not on the news because it's boring nerd shit that someone like you casually disregards because you cannot understand it. The US govt is closer to fusion now than ever with their NIF, a device that is a result of the failed TMX program. Both have hugely benefited from the LHC's research into high-energy plasma movement.

In case it's not obvious: your cheaper energy is the study of what happens when particles collide at very high speeds. This can be approximated best in either open nuclear bomb testing or large railguns. Until nuclear bomb testing is allowed again, the LHC and similar devices is the best chance you have for workable fusion because it is the only way we can meaningfully study it.

>Remember how much better it made everything? Remember that? Huh?"

The US government spent $4 billion rebuilding it's nuclear weapons after the Higgs was decisively quantified, as it made several important quantum functions usable within atomic bombs. It's also why we now have quantum computers, because higgs fields are encountered whenever the quantum computer does a calculation and transmutes mass as a consequence. Which is how it's different from a normal computer.

Yes, but that's not the only thing we've learned. Fusion is never going to be economically viable if a reactor costs $50B, takes 20 years to build, and requires the world's entire supply of tritium to function. Scale down and see how efficient you can make reactors at the small scale before scaling up again.

Saw a great talk at DPP this year - there's a guy 3D printing chambers for tabletop stellarators and developing a semi-automated winding technique. Constructing smaller scale experiments is becoming affordable to the point that most small universities could operate something tabletop or room-sized if they simply had the funding.

Imagine how many experiments we could run and how much data we could collect if instead of spending $50B on one ITER, you spent $5B on a couple thousand tokamaks and stellarators, gave one to every university with a plasma physicist on staff, and said "alright, make whatever modifications you can come up with to improve the efficiency and confinement time for this device and report your results.

IFLS soience faggots are incessantly claiming credit for having invented everything when in reality they contributed to nothing. They have to constantly claim credit for the value of other people's work and inventiveness to justify their existence because they have nothing of their own to rely on.
Taking credit for things you didn't do is intellectual property theft, but they just don't care.

I was just reading something about cops and had to think Low Earth Orbit instead of Law Enforcement Officer. Space stations manned by cops.

All of those guys were religious/spiritual/occult in some form. All that woo woo shit people make fun of would be right up their alley. They wouldn't want to talk to some atheist science dork wearing a Marvel shirt, they would be asking the hippie giy how he knows about resonant frequencies. They'd be talking about alchemy and hermetic principles.
