Because education has been coopted to be indoctrination of the young who type for obedience. Wildberger is a renegade as he teaches students how to think and points out obvious double think like the not real 'real numbers'

Academics are aware of this and know the think tanks wknt back him so he is seen as easy prey

I think this has changed recently though, covid disproved bertrand russells thesis on the scientific society. An enlighted sect of technologists act against the conscious of society, and technologically methods to inculcate consent just make discontents ungovernable so i think wildberger will be cannonized in the future

Do you know why people hate him? It's because he goes against what people are taught in school, university and by people they trust and look up to. And when you do that people don't like it, they think that the people they look up to, or learned off of are right, and know better than some random person on the internet who they call a crackpot. They don't like their ideas being challenged so they lash out and call people retards or low IQ when they don't even understand why wildberger advocates for a different numerical system, or are just so up their own arses that they don't care about anything other than what they already know and what trusted sources tell them, without diving into what is objectively correct, and what is just convention.
