Plausible, or schizo tier? Consider the cyclical model of the universe. Could eternal recurrence be possible, at least in the sense of unknowingly experiencing consciousness again?

yes

>again
only from the perspective of someone sitting outside the universe and watching it repeat.

every time a nigga die, a child is born. your soul goes to heaven so god can make more people out of it.

a criminal is when god makes a person out of the scraps

this is why a man that's a coward is a net loss to the tribe. goes against god's will. all men are meant to die.

I think its schizobabble but not necause it's internally incoherent (I used to think the same thing - if pre-birth state isn't eternal, why do I assume post death will be? If they are the same thing then by my own existence right now I have all the evidence that it ISNT and its basically irrational for me to not believe in rebirrth).

BUT, I think where this logic goes wrong is in its "thingifying" of non existence. That is, it's not actually a state you came from or a state you'll return to - its not a state at all. In reality all that actually exists is what exists. Babies are not "brought into existence" from non-existence as if fertilizing an egg plucks a being from a type of Buddhist nibbana and imposes existence on them. What happens is causes and conditions in the world happen with pre-existing stuff that just combine and develop in a particular way forming a fetus and then a baby. There's nothing otherworldly about.

And so do yoy see the point? It's only because I have a delusional notion of myself as a sort of Cartesian cogito or a substantial self or soul distinct from this body and its function that projecting "non-existence" prior to my birth is even coherent. It's as if I think of myself as a thing, a self a stable ego that persists through time and change and throughout my life, and which popped into being at my birth. But this is a delusion. I am just my body. My body formed out of the world that already existed. Worldly actions caused my bkdy to he formed. And when I die inwont go "back" to non existence. Because I never was there. I'm not a substantial self or ego. What will happen is a change in bodily function and this bkdy will become a corpse rather than an I've body. There is just the world. "Non-existence" is just a concept in lur minds we apply to our pre-birth state because we delusionally think of ourselves as cogitos. The body forms out of the world and remains in it when it dies. There's nothing otherworldly going on here,

To be frank I believe in rebirth I just don't think this

>"non existence prior to my birth wasnt eternal so why would the same non existence after my death BE eternal???"

argument is particularly coherent. As in I don't think its wrong I think it rests on an incoherent picture of the world and what we exist as.

Trying to debate anything related to consciousness is fundamentally problematic. You can only meaningfully talk about things which exist in the external reality which we all share, consciousness does not exist in external reality however.

Despite that, I do lean towards thinking that consciousness will always continue.

You don't retain your memories so it doesn't matter. Even if you do get reborn, you will never know. So dying and being reborn is functionally the same as death eternal for the current "I".
And if there is no continuty between the two Is, and there is nothing to even say that that's the same I.

>> No.15808437

Holy shit this is exactly what I believed.
