Is it really possible for a solar flare to destroy all electronic technology?
If so, what is your plan to cope when this happens?

My plan is to die in the massive riots/wars which happen afterwards.

Yes.

This. Preferably quickly.

>wars
how would that work when none of the military tech functions?

People would bash each other's skulls in with rocks or use bow and arrow. Also America has more guns than people, those wont stop working. Wars wouldn't be fought with tanks, it'd be fought by factions holding swaths of land looking to take whatever shit they can from other factions.

No. The electrical grid just acts like a big antenna for those surges. Anything with sufficient surge protection will be fine

>Is it really possible for a solar flare to destroy all electronic technology?
No, but one can dream.

Cope with what? It would be the best day of my life.

No. Susceptibility to electrical surges of this sort is extremely well understood and most infrastructure is well insulated against it (in the first world that is)

neither will combustion engine cars, EVs would probably all burn up from solar flare activity

Not modern IC, they're shonked full of so many pcbs, they'll just fry.

You don't need a galactic hard kill to end the digital internet age, sonny. It will brick, obsolete, and dispose itself until it hit the increasingly centuralized nerve, and it is not far into the future.

Cars haven't improved in 40 years, they're all still fast enough to go well over the speed limit. I drive a 1980s Volvo, all the electronics in newer cars is just chinky junk thats bound to fail regardless solar flares

guns are doorstops without ammo.

Thats why people who have large collections of guns also stockpile ammo.

possible, sure, but very improbable
today most modern grids are resistant to pretty strong GICs, so even a Carrington-level event would probably not do too much damage
a Miyake-level event would probably do it as of now though, but they only come along every few thousand years, by the time one hits our grids can likely handle that with ease too
unless we're extremely unlucky our capabilities to handle GICs will scale much faster than the odds of events we can't handle yet occurring, until we're far past the level of resilience that can handle the maximum events Sol is capable of (estimated at around X500-X1000, once every tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of years)
