For all your teacher knows, the class could be being silent because nobody knows the answer. In that case, he needs to back up and explain things better. If you actually understand everything and are sending signals that you're a retard who needs shit explained ten times before you get it, you're making him do unnecessary work. Thus the grumpiness. Obviously he should understand the students' perspective and try to control his emotions about it, but he's human too.

this is sort of my problem. I see what the professor is trying to accomplish and I often work with them. i understand the cadence pretty well and I don't answer every question defeating the purpose but I feel like I am shielding my classmates a bit as well by doing this so that they might feel more comfortable. though it is getting a little too much. i think i'm going to stop participating like that
