Why are +/- infinity treated as the same point for the Schwarz-Christoffel mapping? Why do they both go to the same vertex?

It says the polygon is closed. Are you looking for a more technical explanation? If the polygon is closed, and the real line is mapped to the boundary of the polygon, then the endpoints of the real line have to get identified in the w-plane.

Is it because if you imagine "unzipping" the polygon, you have to start with the endpoints which necessarily must be +/- infinity, therefore they get mapped to the same point?
