Just what is it, exactly? Apparent scientists are already making vaccines for this "Disease X" and have patents on the disease, the vaccine, and the medication to treat it. But what is this disease, exactly?

Since they're working on it ahead of time, I assume the vaccine will be fairly safe, so I'll be the first to get it. I'd like to be protected against this disease which we don't know yet.

Disease X is a speculative business: Biomedical and Pharma-teams essentially speculate and "bet" on whatever new disease will become the latest, greatest, pandemic, and then proceed to acquire samples, poke it around, produce potential cures, etc.. Part of it is for "public safety", most of it is unfortunately because Pfizer demonstrated proof of concept that if you make a vaccine for a pandemic that covers even bare minimum of requirements of *functionality you get 37-100 billion dollars every year of that pandemic.

*You also get to name your terms of service and sale, AND, that can include exclusivity which effectively means once you "win" you never have to worry about competition from other medical outfits.
