Why can’t all these dumbfuck scientists hit the pause button on these hopeless replication attempts and demand access to the original sample to at least verify that they might conceivably BE ABLE to produce an RTSC in the first place? I feel like I’m missing something here. Why would you continue under the assumption that the original sample is legit after like 100 failed replication attempts? If other labs can verify the sample, cool, continue on with the replication attempts. But no one seems interested in doing that, I don’t get it.

The early replication studies are probably bullshit. Just hack scientists trying to play the lottery.

If their fake results are right, they'll get to brag about their lab being "among the first to replicate the result."

If they're wrong, well, just chalk it up to measurement error, or claim that "our tests were only intended to verify that the material met certain criteria of a superconductor, and we did not claim it actually was a superconductor"

This entire thing reminds me of this scifi story I read back in the day.

From what I remember a group of scientists were told that an eccentric inventor developed an anti-gravity machine, but he dies in the process of experimenting with it and the device was destroyed. Since he was secretive he didn't leave much behind to replicate it.

They were all called to figure out how he invented it and they had access to his notes, lab, library and his entire estate.

In the end they did manage to replicate the anti-gravity machine, but the main character correctly figure out that the inventor never existed. The entire thing was staged to make the other scientists invent such a device because they'd think that since it was done once, it must be possible. So they invented one. All the notes and the lab and so on were just staged with random stuff vaguely related to such a field so they'd try different things.

If you want, you can have your entire career go by without any project lasting longer than a single student's Ph.D. Researchers who like working on very long-term projects either join industry R&D labs or national labs like LLNL, where you're expected to commit to developing certain long-term research thrusts for large chunks of your career.

>Park Jin-ho, vice president of the College of Energy Engineering, who led the agreement, said in a phone call with Yonhap News that day that he was provided with a sample of LK-99 and is analyzing it with a high-performance electron microscope, which is one of only three in the world.
>Vice President Park explained that he first received a request for cooperation from the Quantum Energy Research Institute in 2017 with the introduction of Professor Emeritus Oh Geun-ho of Hanyang University, who participated in the LK-99 research.
>“At first, the material itself was fine, but the reproducibility was poor, and there was also a problem with the purity of the sample itself,” he said.
>He said that it is still in an early stage, and that it is not at the level of disclosing the data to the outside, and that the analysis will take about six months.
>Vice President Park explained that even if this material is not a room-temperature superconductor, it is approaching from the perspective that it can be useful if it surpasses the characteristics of existing materials
>He said, “For our research fields such as power semiconductors and wires, it is good to have superconducting properties.”
>Vice President Park said, "The constituent elements are not difficult to obtain and are simple materials."

It is bizarre. I think it will be a superconductor, but it's super dependent on success of the synthesizing process. I hope it is above the freezing point of water but that's just copium.

Yeah...thing is though if you're actually doing legitimate research and you're not up to any illegal shit, then you're perfectly fine. Obviously this rules out many people ITT, but fortunately there are many more who really aren't hiding any narcotics or machine guns in their homes that they're worried about the FBI finding.
