Something that always blows my mind is how small most Cambrian stuff is. Anomalocaris is a metre long, but Opabinia's only just shy of 10 cm.

Hmm... How about an ancient, badass Hyena (from an extinct family known as Percrocutidae?

I can appreciate it. I tend to prefer ancient sea-life and various plants (and fungi), myself.

Here's a prototaxite cross-section under a microscope. They were giant fungi that lived between 420-370 mya. Grew up to 8m high.

It's hard to imagine primitive landscapes. No grass, after all...
