like my ex used to say, why is it so fucking big?
and is it true it will only use 100 gram of gas to run?
why not focus on smaller reactors?

because energy output scales with volume, fusion is economically viable only if it is at a large scale

iter is in big trouble. they found cracks in the thermal shielding and pipes and damage in machinery which would require them to lift the entire assembly in pieces back out of the pit if not done now while its still in construction. this throws the whole project back for years. not even the iter committee can even tell anymore how much more money and time this will cost them. theres already rumors that another research reactor might replace iter before its even done around 2030.
