There are very few real "mental disorders" and schizophrenia is not amongst them, if you can't open a the patient's brain and pinpoint the exact physical cause then you have almost no way of telling if the person really has that "disorder" or if he is just lying, which is extremely easy to do, to the point that they can convince themselves to act that way, which then again, would have no difference from "contracting" the disorder.
They can also "cure" the (nonexistent) disorders the same way btw, if you convince yourself you have one, and get diagnosed, and then you convince yourself you no longer have then you have magically "cured" your fake illness
