Why did mods ban the word s o y?
Were they bought by big s o y into censorship? Or perhaps did the word strike a nerve with moot?

Why is it still banned? The s o yjak meme is almost dead and this shit is genuinely harmful for you. Most "vegetable" oils are just s o ybean oil.

>> No.15558011

>>15558009
same reason they filtered coombrain. Not sure quite what set them off about it, not even sure if it's still filtered because of how short it lasted.

Moot was gone long before that word filter was put in place.
>Most "vegetable" oils are just s o ybean oil.
I've been noticing that, too. Canola/Rapeseed used to be the most common vegetable oil but lately soibean oil has been showing up in literally everything even more frequently. I agree it's all toxic and to be avoided for your health.

Because fags spammed the board with dumb shit about phytoestrogens and weird conspiracies. There was a point where there were dozens of threads about it at all times

So y is also rotated with corn because it requires less fertilizer

>> No.15558044

>>15558039
>because it requires less fertilizer
Misconception, it helps fix already existing nitrogen in the soil to make nutrients more accessible for the next rotation. This can be done by any bean plant though. Basedbean is most popular because it's the biggest, fastest growing, hardiest, highest yield bean humans can eat. I'm not here to justify the use of it, just explain why it's there. It wouldn't be nearly as commonplace if manufactured food wasn't shipped in from third world countries where basedbean grows BETTER than corn.

Fun fact: Rotating soibeans and corn is part of what's depleting the health of our soil: https://www.news.iastate.edu/news/2019/10/02/croprotation

If anything they should add more word filters. Keeps people from spamming annoying buzzwords.

Ideas:

No, it requires less fertilizer. Corn requires 200 lb/acre of nitrogen and so y requires 50 lb/acre. There are other benefits to rotating through other crops, but other beans and leguminous cover crops actually fix nitrogen rather than depleting it. Green cycling is what you're talking about and while it certainly helps boost the SOM of soils which increases their CEC and may help retain nutrients that would otherwise leach away, there's no real evidence that it makes nutrients more accessible.

>> No.15558077

>>15558048
No, it's the practices that deplete soil of organic matter that ruins soil. The overuse of synthetic fertilizers, tilling fields, the export of crop residue, ect.

>> No.15558098

>>15558077
>No, it's the practices that deplete soil of organic matter that ruins soil.
Yeah, like the PRACTICE of repeatedly rotating between corn and soibeans.

What's your alternative proposal? Not rotating? Even the ancient Romans were smarter than this.

>> No.15558130

>>15558071
Interesting! Most of the models I've been keeping up with are trying to shift to a "combined" model of growing things in tandem together, where that nitrogen fixation essentially allows the non legume crops to access nitrogen that WAS in the soil but not available to them.

>> No.15558137

>>15558098
Rotating between corn and so y does not deplete the SOM. Tilling exposes organic matter to oxygen which allows it to decompose, exporting crop residue for use as animal fodder prevents the formation of organic matter to replace what was lost, and so does the use of synthetic fertilizers instead of manure or compost. Crop rotations of any kind do not deplete organic matter.

>> No.15558141

Like maybe rotating more than just 2 things and rotating in animals and generally creating a more biodiverse and natural environment for crops? Just a thought.

A few years ago there was a big meme about how eating s o y increases your estrogen levels and will make you a tranny.
The mod teams are actual, unironic trannies and got triggered so that's how we got word filters.
Word filters aren't based on what is good for the site, they're based on what triggers the mods' personal feelings.

Soibeans aren't used because they can be eaten. I used to work for a greenbean farmer who was familiar with farming practices generally and he told me that soibean is grown because it's good for the corn and can be used as animal feed, but that it IS NOT good for human consumption, and that asians are stupid for eating it. This was in the mid 90s, before human consumption of soibean became common in America.

not a single post in this thread is correct. The truth is pic related, a mod got salty about his little pink soiboard getting ripped on in /mkg/, and made the change. He had to keep adding further and further layers to keep filtering people who would use unicode to get around the filter, and made the sole exemption I know of, soyuz, after seeing too many people screech in spaceflight general about the baseduz. I honestly don't know where the onions bit came from.
