It's remarkable how Ariane 6 and Vulcan are the product of 2014-era SpaceX, when SpaceX was just becoming a major player at a much reduced price but before reuse. If they had taken SpaceX seriously 2-3 years sooner, these rockets would be flying by now. If they had waited 2-3 years (or had any ambition), maybe they would've tried reuse. But because of their reaction to 2014 SpaceX, we have two rockets that are both shit and late.

Vulcan spent at least a year waiting on the engines. Starting earlier wouldn't have saved them unless Aerojew Shekeldyne had made the AR-1 fully reusable and cheaper.

How does hot staging create an abort mode in any way? It just moves Starship ignition a couple seconds to the left, it doesn't magically make the ignition sequence quicker or Starship powerful enough to move away in time even if ignition was quick enough (reminder that Dragon 2 abort has a full-thrust TWR of ~4 and basically instant ignition and thrust ramp-up due to SuperDracos being pressure-fed hypergolic engines). Or do you mean that because of the spin separation abort was completely impossible before and now at least an abort where the booster can just terminate thrust would be conceivable, while any abort involving fire would still likely be impossible? That still leaves the question of Raptor pre-chill and the actual quickest possible ignition, but I guess it was even worse before than I thought?

>The consensus was that Schmitt would work through Cernan, like it or not. Or in Cernan’s words: “Period. End of story. Sit down.”

Mind you it's a pain in the ass relative to kerbal even landing a tiny probe on the moon is hard.

That's when you reaize how smart the 60s fuckers were with the apollo program by making each stage very well designed for it's task even if it means using a lot of different fuels and techs.

>ignored the US vs USSR
Not the point of the film. It's a personal drama about what Neil went through during those years as a test pilot and then at NASA as an astronaut. You may as well get mad that The Right Stuff doesn't have a Rock IV-esque showdown between John Glenn and Yuri Gagarin. As for the flag planting, they don't show the planting of the flag but they do the show flag planted. Literally everything you read about this movie being anti-American was just dumb outrage porn peddled to boomers by the MSM.
