I know how you feel.

I was just watching a video about France's TGV today. They said the original prototype ran on kerosene-fueled jet turbine engines, but then the price of oil shot up in the 1970s. It was was no problem though, because by that time, they were already coming out with the iconic orange and white TGV from the 1980s, which were electric and powered by french nuclear energy.

Now that's something I can get excited about. Back then, engineers were building the world of the future. Then they just stopped and gave everyone a cellphone to distract them from the fact that our civilization is going nowhere.
