24 is highly composite, superabundant and a practical number which makes it likely to show up in day to day human applications involving measures or weights.

Consequently multiples of 24 are likely to show up if you are scaling these applications up, and a lot of the nice properties of 24 are also kept by it's multiples, so they are also likely to be used alot.

for technology it's more that these numbers come up through groupings of bits. we have data buses of bit width 8, 16, 24, 32, etc, and then they get multiplied.
64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 are not multiples of 24 but are common for similar reasons
