I don't see any benefits. It makes more sense to fund valuable terrestrial science pretty much every time. It's dramatically cheaper, less destructive, and more beneficial for humanity. Should space exploration be banned or at least dramatically reduced?

That's 90% of our meme economy. At least space exploration can lead to discovery of resources and building of moon/mars bases

>> No.15455954

I can't think of anything as obviously important as this. We need *more* people like Musk working on this, not fewer.

>That's 90% of our meme economy
true. It's pretty much all we do.
why would anyone want moon bases or mars bases? seems like a meme
All they're gonna do is fly business faggots into orbit for no reason. Best we can hope for is catostrophic accidents sometimes.
But in terms of government funded research, it seems like you will always get more bang for your buck by funding lab research
I guess that's besides the point tho. The main problem is the privately-funded space exploration

actually you're right, that's not strictly necessary, it could possible to live on a space station, on the moon or the earth even if the biosphere gets destroyed
we don't have that tech yet, terraforming seems like the easier path

>> No.15456112

>>15456078
Terraforming is not an easier path. Earth is an extremely fortunate planet for generating life. Abundance of carbon, a heavy magnetic core that protects it's atmosphere from being stripped away, surrounding a yellow star at a near perfect distance to promote a thermodynamic system that supports complex carbon bonds.
The moon and mars do not have these things.
Establishing an atmosphere on mars would require way more energy stored on a payload than we can feasibly safely launch. Protecting that established atmosphere would require the amount of infrastructure and energy only a type 2 civilization could manage.
Humans are not gods, there are hard material challenges to populating the solar system, and there are present much more prescient problems in being stewards of the planet we live on.

>> No.15456119

>>15456078
that's fucking retarded. So you're saying we continue to burn the only place we can actually live comfortably so that the last human can die fused into a chair in a pod on the moon?

I think at this point, there's very little meaning left to be had in this world for the average person besides actively sabotaging the consumption machine. Kaczynski was right.

In my province Team Consume is big into clear cutting the rainforest that the cariboo need to survive, and flying around in helicopters shooting wolves because "wolves are preying on the cariboo". Oh and they can't get enough population growth.
They're sick in the fucking head and actually pure evil in a lot of ways.
Soon enough there will be no forests, no cariboo, and no wolves because Team Consume thinks it has everything figured out.

When the spinning ball-Earth is finally exposed worldwide for the 400+ year deception it was, Earth's entire population will suddenly be faced with the reality that every government, every space agency, university, secret society, religious organization, mainstream and alternative media outlet have ALL been duplicitous in propping up a monstrous manipulation to fleece and control the masses. The resulting mass mental exodus away from the control system is exactly what humanity needs. Once the flat Earth truth gets out, these lying politicians, spokesmen, reporters and teachers suddenly change from being heralded voices of authority to being ridiculed, shunned and denounced as they deserve. Once the flat Earth truth gets out, these governments, universities, media outlets and other entangled organizations which have long been hard at work weaving this multi-generational ball-Earth myth, suddenly and completely lose all credibility. Once the truth of our flat Earth gets out, so does the truth of these few elite families/societies who have kept this most important and fundamental reality from us for these hundreds of years! Essentially, once the flat Earth truth gets out, so does every other important truth by proxy, because this "mother-of-all-conspiracies" holds under its umbrella literally ALL of the other conspiracies, and exposes them.

which province? BC?
honestly I'm 100% in agreement. I feel that all the development of science in the 20st century has done is taught us that we cant outdo evolution most of the time. Back in the 50s we didn't understand biochemical ecology and we invented all these new miracle chemistries, then it took us 50 years to learn why they are bad and how nature already created a dramatically better alternative (e.g., beneficial insects vs insecticides). But you still have all these consoomers who haven't learned anything from the last 70 years of science and think we can fix everything with (((economic growth))). Space exploration is just the most obvious example, but the same goes for lots of other bullshit like

No. The desire to explore space is a genuine and legitimate goal. The people at SpaceX literally have dedicated their lives and intellect to trying to solve this engineering problem, and the fact that it can be done commercially now speaks to the success of Musk. You may not like him, I get it, but I think you have to acknowledge his dedication, and that he is actually trying to make humanity better.

They aread about everything because they suck in everything and want someone else to either fix it for them or be forced to pretend there is nothing wrong with it. They want to bitch their way out of the shithole they out themselves in.
