You have a button in front of you

this button kills all religion in the universe

what do?

>> No.1544227

Not press it.
People have the right to think what they want, no matter how batshit insane or awful it is. The world would be fucking boring if everyone had the same opinion and views, wouldn't it?
Fuck that. I have no beef with religion, just sheeple.

>> No.1544238 [DELETED]

Scientology.

>> No.1544235

I wouldn't push it, because I recognise the fact that religion can be important for certain people to cope with the problems of daily life.

People that live in terrible situations, war for example, tend to turn to religion to find some kind of calming effect.

DOes it kill religious people? if so, then no.

Does it destroy the concept of religion in peoples minds?
still no.

Does it elevate people to a basic understanding of how logic works, thus making religion look stupid so everyone decides to throw it away because they now understand logic and fallacies?
yes.

>> No.1544243

Not press it. Religion, in moderation has it's place in society, regardless of what Dawkins and his fan club think. I'd be more tempted to press the "Destroy OP" button.

Presuming it replaces religion with SCIENCE or at least the ability to think for oneself, then yes.

Otherwise, I STILL would, because, as a man of science, I'd like to see how it works.

Too bad Atheism is as much of a religion as anythings else. To truly get rid of religion is to remove humanities consciousness and self-awareness. The only way to prevent forming a hypothesis on the issue is to remove any way of considering the issue in the first place.

A good argument against the "atheism tells you you're meaningless" argument, but poorly worded. Try this.
"Religion attempted to give people meaning by way of a fictional authority figure giving us a job to do. Back when we were surviving well with our increased intelligence we found ourselves with less to do, and more time to think. We also found the societies we had made to survive so well on the brink of collapsing as soon as everyone decided 'I am fed enough, bye'. So the stories we were making up also formed the backbone of the authority figured to be trained into the minds of the young so that they would follow a set path to continue the purpose of society. At the time it was a lot easier than trying to get everyone to continue society so that society can continue so that we can keep surviving. That is right, because we were surviving, ideas like "continued survival" and "improved survival" and "improving of present conditions" and "being able to do awesome things because it is cool" was just not good enough. They had to be scared of invisible men with hammers to act civilized. Now, if the benefits of acting civilized are not obvious, and the exploration to find your own purpose is not good enough, then I feel sorry for you. I am going to work to better things for all, and find ways to be excellent."

I am a Creationist, and I am very glad to give all the little atheists here that argument to use on every religious nut they meet.

It's quite funny because this is so fucking true. Youtube is full of this shit.

Irony 101. Atheists have FAITH that God doesn't exist. They have the burden of proof to prove that God doesn't exist.

(a)theists vs theists, duh. It isn't brain science.

TL:DR don't try and say the burden of proof is on theists, because 1 their faith is not scientifically based, and 2 it's a stupid argument and I will TL:DR it.

>> No.1544681

>>1544626
Have a hard time coming up with a response to this because it is so incredibly inaccurate I can't find anyway of convincing you otherwise.

Theists have helped create every aspect of every subject. The majority of Philosophy, science, literature, math, and any other subject has been largely contributed to by theists.

I personally have watched everything I can and considered every option and every idea and spent countless hours forming my basis for my understanding. I have lost much sleep examining all the possibilities and am no way feel like I have ever cut a corner by believing in a creator.

My understanding has not come through what is popular or what someone has said, but is entirely subject to my own reasoning and critical analysis of every experience and thought in my life. Everything has its place in the truth of this world and beyond. My mind attempts to fit all things together and discard nothing. My thought process understands the thought processes of those who disagree. I have in no way discarded anything.

It is you who have cut corners and abandoned critical thought. Someone who spews such words but has not even considered or taken the time to fully understand what it is that religion or Christianity has to say has no place in discussion about critical thinking.

Not knowing and knowing not are worlds apart. An Atheists believes he knows not, but does not have proof, and is in the same boat as a theist. Only a stance of not knowing requires no proof.
