why is nearly a majority of neuro research fake?
why is over 25% of all other research fake?
is any of it worth discussing at all, given the high likelihood of the research in questions being fake?

I worked my ass off 2 years in a row since second year so that I could sit this prize exam, only to get fucked in it.

As soon as I left the exam, I started thinking of things I could've said to impress the examiners more and gain more marks. My breadth of knowledge wasn't the issue, but it was rather the fact that I can't fucking cope with being under pressure, in an environment like that.

It was announced a few days ago that this exam would be held today, and I've been working 8-12 hours a day so that I can win, so that my hard work over the past few years bears some fruit. Now, in third year, I haven't won any prizes, which is a huge asymmetry and inconsistence with previous years where I was top of my class. I fell off.

I wouldn't care as much if I hadn't tried, but this is making me suicidal. I am no longer the best; I am a midwit that spun his wheels and couldn't get anywhere. Being smart, winning prizes and such is how I determine my self-worth, and justify my existence.
If I'm not exceptional, why should I exist? what right do I have to exist, it's just fucking around and being mediocre and eating and shitting and fucking around in "Life". Life means nothing to me if I am not exceptional.

This time I have pushed myself beyond my boundaries, limits, and still fucking lost. Well, I don't really know yet, it all happened a few hours ago. But what I do know is that I didn't perform as well as I ought to have. I didn't demonstrate the breadth of knowledge I had, all because I choked on the fucking day, 20 minutes of examiners asking me questions flew by with me seeming, after all this hard work, as if I was throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. Tragic, really. Normally I would call this an absurdity and move on past it in a state of comfort, I enjoy such feelings of absurdities since they make me zoom out and realize nothing matters in this grand scheme.

But this absolutely raped my self-esteem, and my will to continue existing.

I fucking tried hard for two years, only to get raw-dogged by the reality, fucking choking on the day. I knew everything, I knew more than anyone else. Why didn't it come out? Only God knows. I usually say amor fati, embrace fate, but this is too big a blow for me, considering how much work I have put into it. Perhaps soon this will be seen as an absurdity by me, and I will be able to better cope with it, but in this acute phase, I don't really have a reason for living.

>thinking FM is safe from automation
>thinking surgery is safe from automation

Anon, considering the potential advancements in AI, it's worth questioning whether Family Medicine (FM) will remain unaffected. The European Union is currently facing a significant shortage of FM doctors compared to other specialties. If AI is introduced, it's possible that FM could be the first to experience its impact. AI could assist in triaging patients and making referrals to other specialties without requiring initial appointments. Only if this initial step fails would patients need to visit a doctor in person. Furthermore, if other specialties become automated, professionals in those fields may transition to FM, saturating the job market

Secondly, let's consider the potential automation of surgery. AI could offer assistance in tasks such as visual recognition of borders to dissect and vessel mapping using camera data, AI could simultaneously avoid the complications of surgery that come from surgeon's mistakes. While AI-assisted tools may find their place in surgical procedures, it's unlikely that surgeons would be entirely replaced, particularly in emergency scenarios. Additionally, the cost of implementing robotic systems for surgery remains a significant factor that could limit widespread adoption. It's worth noting that if AI were to impact clinical specialties first, there would likely be saturation of other job markets, particularly the surgical field.

>> No.15448929

>>15448867
You fundmentally misunderstand how the EU works, it's not about efficiency or saving costs, it's a about an ever expanding byzantine bureaucracy that employs more and more people that form a stable loyal voting block. People losing their jobs = bad, and unless the EMA gets automated, it won't automate physicians, it's really not complicated, there's a reason the EU is a start-up wastland, why else do you think they intend to implement draconian AI-restrictions? Don't get me wrong, it won't stay out of medicine, but it will have a giant collar of regulations and insurance dependencies around it's neck and likely be nothing more than a symptom checker or UI helper in the foreseeable future. The only position it could meaningfully replace is clinical pharmacy and we barely have those to begin with.

NEUROLOGY is one of the most captured by pharma specs due to the nature of the disease
it has stroke which is the heart disease of the brain. Huge potential to make big money off lifelong medicating.
devastating chronic diseases for which pharma makes some drug, runs a corporate trial to find a minor clinically insignificant benefit. Than bribes the FDA and boom - standard of care. It is WAAAY more profitable to make a shit drug and bribe the FDA than to actually invest a large sum of money into some experimental new treatment that might work well, but it's risky for the bottom line.

idk if other specialties suffer from the above, I suspect they do. I'd like to hear examples from your specialties

This is probably the least important part of being a FM and an AI making referals in the near future is a ridiculous idea to anyone.
What you are saying is that since there is a giant shortage of FM docs people will try to use AI to make their work more efficient, which will only benefit FM docs, especially since most of them own their own practice.

But anyways, do you know the feeling when you stand up too fast and you feel lightheaded for a moment? So my symptoms are that I have this feeling all the time, but not as intense, just feeling a little dizzy and my balance is bad. But occasionally I also have big, random dizziness that last 1-5 seconds and it's more intense, I feel like out of oxygen my lower back is tingling.
What could cause this? I have this for over a year and it makes me very depressed not being able to find a remedy. I think either something with blood pressure or related to anxiety or brain damage. I don't want any diagnosis, just some opinion from someone who knows something more about medicine.

Hey guys I'm writing a medical short story
It'll be about a woman who has gone into a lot of debt trying to treat her 8 year old daughter who suffers a lot of pain and also can't really communicate anymore

If you have to leech physicians from other countries, at least make it a tight selection based on education and training standards

>>15459612
Don't think so, if you can't slap a patent on it doctors would "ideally" use generics so there's not much pofit to be made from manufacturing, at best it'll help you compete for research grants. >Which helminths can appear as white small balls in stool?
The presence of white small balls in stool can indicate the presence of various parasites, including certain helminths (worms). However, it's important to note that diagnosing any medical condition or parasitic infection based solely on a description is not reliable, and you should consult a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation and diagnosis.

That being said, here are a few examples of helminths that may appear as white small balls in stool:

Pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis): Pinworms are one of the most common intestinal parasites in humans. The adult worms are small, white, and thread-like, while their eggs may be visible as tiny white balls in the stool or around the anal area.

Ascaris lumbricoides: Ascaris is a large roundworm that can infect the intestines. Adult worms can reach lengths of 15-35 cm and may occasionally be visible in the stool. However, the presence of their eggs or larvae may be more commonly observed.

Tapeworms (Cestodes): Tapeworms are flat, segmented worms that can infect the intestines. Depending on the species, tapeworm segments or proglottids may be visible in the stool. These segments can sometimes appear as small, white, or pale-colored moving pieces.
It's worth noting that there are numerous other helminths that can infect the human body, and their appearance in the stool can vary. Additionally, various other factors, such as undigested food or medication, can sometimes cause white or ball-like objects to appear in the stool. Again, if you have concerns about your stool or suspect a parasitic infection, it is best to seek medical advice for a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

If it's gonna stop me ever experiencing that again I'm pretty happy to roll the dice on killing myself before I'm 30, however if I can take it temporarily with certainty that it won't make permanent changes it may be worth it.

You have to point what makes you more miserable. Being "you" vs being what society thinks you should be.
I'm in a similar situation. Been battling depression/dysthymia my whole life, all I've ever know is being miserable. I feel comfortable being miserable. It's all I've been for thirty years and probably for most of what remains for my life.
Yet, society says I should be optimistic, smile and pretend I am something else. Have gf and the whole enchilada.
Being under medication makes me feel like a tamed animal. I value my freedom and I am not ok with being Mr Zogstein ideal lapdog.
Or maybe I'm just afraid of being normal, and having the responsibility that comes with it. The only thing I am certain is that I will never kms, at least not before I pay back the times I've been wronged.

I'm gonna donate blood tomorrow. I donated twice last year ago so I'm eligible to donate platelets/plasma too now, and so I'm wondering which would be the best, considering the red cross at my local donation site says all three are lacking.
Please consider it's unlikely I'll donate again right after the recommended recovery period ends (1 month plasma/platelets, 3 months blood). I say this because I presume the main advantage of donating only plasma/platelets is that you can go for a donation again sooner, so if the red cross could get all the advantages of a plasma/platelets donation by me doing a plasma donation (and separating them afterwards) I might as well do that.

(Also I'm in EU so there is no money involved)
