Honestly, I kind of hate this idea because it gave origin to our current planetary defense measures that slow down exploration.
Someone should put forward a panspermia/planetary defense experiment where they send a spacecraft with multiple microorganisms in varied levels of protection against the space elements, let it orbit in deep space for a while being blasted with radiation and everything else, them return everything back to Earth and see what survived the journey.
If it turns out it is very hard for unmanned probes to bring live microorganisms into other planets/moons, this would be amazing for future probes.

yeah sure, in 1995 NASA said they would need $500 million to launch JWST by 2007.
They spent $20 billion and they only launched it last year, 15 years behind schedule. Nobody is going to the moon via NASA before 2040 and the cost will be half a trillion dollars at least.

Because Japan has a clear market goal for H3 and Yurop does not for A6. A6 is late, nearly two generations out of date, predicated on bad market predictions and national seething, and they’re going to have to beg for spacex scraps because it’s late and they’re about to run out of A5s. A6 already has 50 flights booked for the next 5 years and that's excluding IRISS and military sats for Frenchies and others
Don't get me wrong, they failed hard at gaining back the A5 heyday marketshare.
All of these sats are flying on A6 instead of F9 purely out of protectionism and/or spite, but it has a market goal.

You alleged smart people admit it and still insist on living in a pool of cognitive dissonance. There is no way we are leaving the gravity well on chemical rockets. Any half way smart 4th grader could see that. It's too expensive, too inefficient, and anciet technology. Instead of pushing the boundries of space exploration and engineering we are just spinning our wheels in the same place we've always been...

....You don't think they are fucking up on purpose do you?? PURPOSELY SLOW ROLLING SPACE EXPLORATION TO KEEP HUMANS FROM THE STARS!?!?!?!!?

Told you space fags i'd be back.....it only ends when you submit, I literally have nothing else to do but this....until I die from doing it.

Well As you see I have a long name and it's a system. "Space Elevator" has the most brand recognition so I use that phrase, however there will be no base station on the crust of the Earth. That is the real issue engineering wise with the idea. Once you take that out it's much easier.

So we would launch crew and cargo with special space planes able to reach 70,000-100,000 feet above sea level. The planes would take off and land at normal airstrips with a tiny fraction of the cost a rocket needs.

This allows us to escape the large majority of friction causing atmosphere. We are also now able to use normal technology, NOT CARBON NANO TUBES, to build an orbital tether. The tether will meet the crew/cargo at the 100K level, a hand off happens and the tether pulls all goods and people into space. Please note a few types of sky hook exist so we have options.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyhook_(structure)

The sky hook draws power from space via solar. So as opposed to a rocket that needs a massive amount of energy FROM EARTH to escape the gravity well we are tapping infinite energy in space to to that instead. The only fuel input we need from the planet is the fuel to lift the space plane. This alone is a game changer.

But the plot thickens friend and here you will see the true genius of the plan....

Once we get to low earth orbit via the sky hook dragging us up there we can now enter the main "space train network". We have a track from LEO-->GEO-->Lagrange Point!-->Luna Orbit-->Luna surface!! That's right thanks to not atmosphere and low gravity we have the technology today to build a space elevator like pic related to the surface of the moon. Scientists are actually planning the luna elevator RIGHT FUCKING NOW!

This first and for most EXPONENTIALLY increases the amount of raw material and humans we can lift into space, stuff like dirt and water to grow food in space can now be lifted with ease. We just start stacking supplies and people in space, build more sky hooks, build the orbital ring around Earth and now you can build and crew colony ships of thousands of people. Not all at once but say in 20-40 years the first colony ship might launch. Compare that to 2 niggers on the moon in the same time frame.

The Lagrange Point space station will also act as the main hub central station for all incoming and outgoing traffic from our local orbit. It's all very basic, logical, and efficient. An efficiency not rivaled by any other idea. Not by a long shot.

This is false; lifting cargoes will lower the orbit of the skyhook
>The station can then be reboosted to its original altitude by electromagnetic propulsion, rocket propulsion, or by deorbiting another object with the same kinetic energy as transferred to the payload.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyhook_(structure)
Lifting such a large mass by electrically interacting with the magnetosphere is out so it will have to be the latter two. You can use high Isp electric thrusters since you're in vacuum but large amounts of propellant will still be needed. I like the concept but don't over sell it

I posted the skyhook video that said exactly what you said and like I also said there are many types of sky hooks/tethers thought up. Your idea has a fundamental flaw as well. We need planes in space to "come home" and add energy to the sky hook....but how did that mass get in space to begin with?? You see we are attempting to get free lunches, not wise.

I have never claimed and WILL NOT CLAIM that I PERSONALLY OR ANYONE has figured it all out just yet. My only point is these concepts need money, resources, and yes very very smart people working of what are in reality MINOR ISSUES TO OVER COME!

You bring up good points and highlight the main difficulty of our journey outwards is the first step between the crust and LEO. Perhaps we could have nuclear powered sky hook stations? I am also not convinced that engines powered by solar won't be able to do the job. Make better engines, panels, and build a shit ton of both. Still better than chemical rockets despite all the above minor hurtles to overcome. I for one think countries should start converting nuclear weapons to power sources for crust and space based systems. Thousands of nuclear powered ships and stations instead of bombs, keep a few if it makes you feel safe.

Thanks for a real response!

My main thesis:

Why spend the next 10-20 years building a pointless chemical rocket program to send a few whocares to the Moon or Mars when all we ever get is some pictures and video that half the people say is fake?

Instead spend that time to launch chemical rockets in service of building all kinds of advanced orbital infrastructure, then use that to springboard thousands of people into space and yes colonize it. We can't do both and it seems like all we have now is a stupid pointless vanity project for rich assholes and corrupt governments. But then again maybe you all have no real desire to see space, maybe you enjoy being slaves down here in the gravity well.

I thought of the simple idea we could have space based lasers on the Earth and shoot solar sails attached to the sky hook station and add huge amounts of energy to the system that way to counter act the momentum lost from lifting objects out of the gravity well. They are already working on Earth based laser to propel solar sails to deep space missions. We could beam limitless energy into space that has zero mass to work against. Compared to lifting rocket fuel or even nuclear fuel into space. Proving my point once again that any real issues brought up with the idea are often easy to over come.

Space elevators are dumb. If we simply had a space elevator, it'd be great, but the logistics of making one outweight the benefits. Any infrastructure capable of putting a space elevator into orbit is capable of putting payloads into orbit (the payloads that the elevator was supposed to lift)
So instead of building an elevator to bring your stuff into orbit, just bring your stuff into orbit.
I think the return on investment, in terms of kg to leo, would never be reached with an elevator. Far better to have ssto rockets.
The reason space elevators trigger me so much is that they're essentially magic. They're physically impossible with current materials, maybe we'll develop something exotic that will work in the future, but we don't know of anything now.
>what about carbon nanotubes
No.
So "why not build a space elevator?" is like saying why not build a spaceship that can fly faster than light, without needing fuel? Sure it's be great, but we can't build them.

Here is the red pill, spinhabs have only one purpose as of NOW. Testing long term effects in simulated Lunar and Martian gravity, and habitation for orbital workers that produce things in 0G. There will never be any large living habitat or reason to have simulated Earth gravity other than as a tourist trap or as small sleeping quarters for workers who wont even work in 1G. 5-10 years in the future, not even the purpose of simulating other worlds gravity will be commercially viable as we will already know them. Anyone posting O'Neill cylinders is a Bezos funded cuck, or a fool.

Define large living habitat.

With Starship anything is possible. We can make 1000 meter x 1000 meter x 1000 meter habitats. A cubic kilomoters of living habitat space that spins and generates enough gravity to mitigate partial affects of gravity on the human body enough for long term human survival. A Martian left his home to start anew
On Earth, he saw decay and social rot
The planet he once loved was now infested
With parasites who cared for naught
Chorus:
Earthlings, they have fallen far
From the heights of human civilization
The Martian sees their flaws and scars
And wonders at their lack of innovation
Verse 2:
The Martian colony thrives and grows
While Earth's society crumbles and slows
The bureaucracy is corrupt and inept
And the people suffer from their neglect
Chorus:
Earthlings, they have fallen far
From the heights of human civilization
The Martian sees their flaws and scars
And wonders at their lack of innovation
Verse 3:
The Martian sees the greed and waste
Of a society that's lost its taste
For progress, for growth, for change
And wonders if they'll ever rearrange
Chorus:
Earthlings, they have fallen far
From the heights of human civilization
The Martian sees their flaws and scars
And wonders at their lack of innovation
Verse 4:
The Martian longs for a better Earth
Where people care for their planet's worth
Where progress is made for all to see
And society thrives in harmony
Chorus:
Earthlings, they have fallen far
From the heights of human civilization
The Martian sees their flaws and scars
And hopes for a better future for all nations.
