Spaceflight is a meme until we have discovered anti-gravity. All resources spent on space flight today are a massive waste and should have flown into building particle accelerators and educating a generation of particle physicists to brute force the discovery of anti-gravity effects. From the moment we have anti-gravity, space travel is peanuts. Trying to make space flight feasable with giant rockets is a massive waste of time.

Bad organizational design, infighting, insufficient funding, and technical debt meant that neither Zond nor the N1/L3 program succeeded. Korolev died and Mishin proved unequal to the task. The N1/L3 was simultaneously underfunded and the most expensive space effort yet undertaken by the USSR. The end of the space race (~1970) meant cutbacks in budget and ambition. The most important projects after that point were the Salyut and Mir stations and Buran Energia. Collapse of the USSR meant another reduction in funding and scope to servicing crewed stations, putting up satellites for the Russian government, and commercial launches. Retirements, interference, and economic reorganizations further sapped the industry, and the Russian federal government had no need or real desire for anything more than servicing LEO with iterations on launch systems already in use. There are constant projects announced/put into some sort of design stage, but those projects' success is not strictly required so many of them ultimately come to nothing.
And of course, it's afflicted by the standard Russian governance problems.

SpaceX may lease High Bay 1 in NASA's VAB. Last August NASA issued an agency announcement asking for industry proposals to lease the Vehicle Assembly Building High Bay 1 at Kennedy Space Center. Starship processing ... I bring this up because two people have told me that SpaceX won the competition to use the high bay for its Starship program. The sources said SpaceX does not plan to perform stacking operations inside the VAB, but rather will use the facility for storage and integration of payloads on Starship before flight. This might be an interim usage by SpaceX while the company develops a larger facility on Roberts Road near the Florida spaceport. It sounds like SpaceX will continue to build Starships in South Texas and ship them to Florida for the time being.

Column F is the number of crew Starships sent to Mars. It is assumed that 1/3 ships sent will be for colonists and that crew Starships carry no cargo for Mars.
Column G is the number of people sent to Mars that launch window, assuming 25 people per Starship.
Column H is the number of people at Mars, assuming half of the previous batch return to Earth each transfer window.

Eric Berger : Quite obviously this did not happen. However, generally, there remains confidence that a license is forthcoming for SpaceX when it is needed—i.e. before 7 am CT on Monday morning. A license could be issued any time, any day, including weekends.

SpaceX could literally launch within minutes of receiving a launch license from the FAA. Every indication from the company and FAA (i.e. road closures, flight restrictions) indicate that planning moving toward a Monday morning launch attempt.

Whether this all comes together? Who knows. But behind the scenes everyone is working toward that, and expectant. SpaceX will conduct technical readiness meetings this weekend to ensure they're ready to proceed. So a few snags remain possible. But this is probably happening.

Yes, lmao. Actually I was a fan of Sedna, Quaoar, and Orcus (in that order) when I was a child, really liked the fact that there were more "planets" that nobody knew outside of the usual 8~9. After getting real pictures of Pluto's surface I got somewhat more interested in Eris, which is a very similar world to Pluto. • The FAA will use key mission "tiggers" such as the loading of rocket fuel and the final disposition of the booster rocket to pinpoint when to close and reopen airspace.
• For the first time, the FAA will implement time-based procedures for a launch from Boca Chica.
