Ramp up Starship production, make more OLMs, and attempt another launch where we actually catch the pieces of Starship. This one is almost guaranteed to not catch any of the parts. Then, absorb worthwhile talent and monopolize Mars travel.

PSA: If this launch is a bad time for you, there's no need to worry. You won't be seeing the blue flames since it's during the day and they won't be catching any parts of the launch vehicle, which means that the main point of Starship isn't being performed this time around. Expensive to put that much mass up there, Starship fixes this by being able to literally be the space station that never has to break and can be continuously reused, or send up an entire Mir/Skylab in one go. Actually, making specialized Starship space stations would be the smarter move IMO. You can bring it back down to make any major modifications you need to and it never has to be destroyed since you can constantly make easy modifications to it.

A space hype cycle wouldn't be that bad, most companies (and investors) that participate in hype cycles are going to lose money, but usually it leaves behind some actual usable infrastructure and paves the way for continued growth in the sector
not sure what this infrastructure would be in the space sector
lots of LEO stations, space launch centers, private stations on different bodies?

meter x meter is a square meter (1 m^2). If we recall our exponent rules, another square makes it a cubic meter (m^(2+1)).
when you cube it, it turns into a cubic meter. so a cubic kilometer is 1000 meters, cubed. Converting meters cubed to cubic kilo(1000)meters is the same as moving the decimal place three times (power law.) So 400 meters, cubed is .4 cubed meters

Are you talking about a Starship variant that you launch into orbit and then leave there to become a semipermanent space station module?

Not that probable, I don't think. Starship has tons of STUFF in it that makes it relatively expensive compared to purpose-built space habitats —engines, plumbing, fuel tanks, all that whatnot. Skylab worked okay because it hollowed out a fuel tank and removed the engine and plumbing to make a habitat out of what had previously been an upper stage. Starship-to-space-station seems like kind of a bad idea both technologically and economically.

But what do I know, I'm a brainlet.

Solar will out compete any nuclear power system in any orbit closer to the Sun than the asteroid belt. It's just way lighter and simpler for the same power output. Massive Earth orbiting stations are better off using big solar arrays than they are using reactors cooled by equally big radiators.
Nuclear power is necessary if you want to be energy rich far from the Sun or somewhere that passes into shadow for long periods. We stopped working on bigger and better space reactors because solar got way better and because ambitions dropped way off. People used to talk about sending city sized Orion drive craft to go colonize the moons of Saturn and shit, now the typical space agency's most ambitious goal is to land on the Moon for a bit.

Most purpose built human habitat modules cosy hundreds of millions. A Starship won't cost nearly as much. Remember, the ISS cost literally $100 billion dollars, with a B. Even after removing the cost of the Shuttle flights to build it, you're looking at insane levels of cost for what are effectively mildly presdurized and insulated aluminum cans with wiring and life support.
Buying a crew Starship and modding the habitat volume layout to work better as a landable, reflyable space station will be easier and cheaper than any legacy program would lead you to expect.

I guess I was thinking of cargo starship vs depo starship. It will be interesting to see the development of crew starship, which will basically be a station in its own right. They will probably leverage HLS development for crew starship, but HLS will have an interior that does dual duty for living in space and on the surface. So it won't be perfect for just living in space. HLS will also already have docking hardware to be used as a station.

Also do we know. If HLS docks to gateway, will the center of mass be in starship? I have to think the mass of HLS will be equal or greater than the rest of the station.

By coincidence maybe. That ship has nothing to do with HLS.
Also the renders we see are placeholders.
Elon has been very autistic about Starship legs so expect some gimmicky design (in a good way)

APRIL 10th-12th EVIDENCE:
Still have advisorys out for these dates for hazard zones
SpaceX likely misdirecting to fuck over earthers
Warned Mexican airspace the same very recently
SpaceX has history of pushing out dates then reeling them back in

APRIL 17th EVIDENCE:
Shadowy sources from fag journalists saying 17th
Road closures not announced (can be changed at any moment)
Elon “Two Weeks” Musk said so
No FAA license (can be given any time before launch)

>> No.15330215

>>15330212
> Abian gained a degree of international notoriety for his claim that blowing up the Moon would end virtually every natural disaster. He made this claim in 1991 in a campus newspaper,[4] stating that a Moonless Earth wouldn't wobble, eliminating both the seasons and its associated events like heat waves, snowstorms and hurricanes.[5] Abian said that "Those critics who say 'Dismiss Abian's ideas' are very close to those who dismissed Galileo."[6]
