Once the BFF is back on the ISS, multiple investigations are slated to leverage its capabilities,
including projects to bioprint human cardiac muscle tissue and human vascular tissue, as well as a
project from the DoD building on their previous investigation using the BFF to bioprint a partial

will they get even 100 sats in orbit by the end of this decade? ALL of their launches are booked on either arianne 5, vulcan, or new glenn. ESA will find a way to delay A5 past 2025, new glenn is still jjst vaporware and vulcan is entirely limited by BE-4 production (nonexistant) but even if the rockets could launch cumulatively more than once a year I don't think they've even built a single satellite yet, not even a pathfinder

yeah they have 2 prototypes about to launch in may you would assume these are built already

> Two initial prototype satellites “KuiperSat-1” and “KuiperSat-2” were originally planned to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022 with ABL Space Systems on their RS1 rocket.[3][4] On 12 October 2022, Amazon updated this plan to be on the initial launch of ULA's Vulcan Centaur launch vehicle in "early 2023."[5]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuiper_Systems

from the cnbc article

> The company’s first two prototype satellites are scheduled to launch on the debut mission of United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket, set for May.

Starlink had its first 2 prototypes in 22 February 2018 called
Tintin, the first one on the list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Starlink_and_Starshield_launches

So Starlink is 5 years 3 months (at least) in front with live testing and so on, but maybe Kuiper has done a lot of development for them already
easier to do if you just copy what starlink did so getting some working constellation quicker than 5 years isn't that impossible I dont think
Amazon has some successful projects under its belt after all

>> No.15275877

Well, they do have a 172k ft2 factory in Kirkland that's supposedly set up for mass production. They should be able to start producing them in large enough quantities to fill their available launchers, but that's only if they're actually settled on the design. I guess they're betting they won't have to make any changes serious enough to require fucking around with their assembly line.

>> No.15275878

>>15275865
> Badyal told CNBC that Amazon expects to make “minor tweaks” from the prototypes to the commercial version, as the satellites are “almost identical” but represent the first time much of the company’s hardware has flown in space.

> While Amazon has yet to show off its satellites, or reveal many details, Limp noted that the Kuiper spacecraft are “larger mass” than the first generation of SpaceX’s Starlink satellites, with Amazon aiming for “Goldilocks-sizing.” And Amazon expects the performance of its Kuiper satellites to “outperform them significantly” when compared to Starlink, with expected performance of processing up to 1 terabit per second (Tbps) of traffic. The satellites are expected to have a lifespan in space of about seven years, before they need to be replaced.

larger than v1 I guess, probably smaller than V2 mini? and much smaller than V2

>“I don’t have any religious issue not to buy capacity from SpaceX, they’re a very reliable rocket, but the Falcon 9 economically wasn’t the best rocket for us,” Limp explained.

America is the only country with the lifting capacity to build one. If China wanted to right now they'd need to use the LM-5, which currently has a 3/year flight rate. This is why they're working so hard to get their own reusables online. Russia has the Proton and Angara-5, neither of which flies often enough or cheaply enough, and Europe is even worse off with the Ariane 6. Everyone wants a megaconstellation, they just flat out don't have the ability to build one, any more than they have the ability to start building solar power stations out in geostationary orbit.

>Interstellar Objects From Broken Dyson Spheres
>Without extensive maintenance, Dyson spheres inevitably disintegrate by asteroid impacts over billions of years. The resulting fragments would appear as anomalous interstellar objects, potentially sharing the unusual shape and motion of 1I/Oumuamua or the unusual material strength of the first two interstellar meteors, IM1 and IM2. If the Dyson sphere tiles are light sails, the number of fragments could exceed that of interstellar asteroids because of their reduced escape speed from the star and the increase in stellar luminosity during the red giant phase.

The suitport is the only reason the xEMU/AxEMU exists. Being able to get in and out quickly is a major improvement over the Apollo suits. It just looks stupid as all hell because you've got softsuit arms and legs dangling impotently off the core of what should be a powered hardsuit. Eventually softsuits will be restricted to IVA or foregone entirely and EVA will be the domain of mini mecha - powered hardsuits with integrated MMUs.

the tubular muscle could be be used to counteract rubber bladder inflation as well as provide extra strength to counteract the inflated rubber bladder
you put on the gloves/suit with muscles relaxed and it all tightens up once you're ready to go outside to make it easy to put on

for the less mobile parts of body you can use BOA system to make it more form-fitting without using the finicky strings like the use on ISS suits or high altitude flight suits

I don't think you understand that starship is what SpaceX wants to use to send large amounts of humans to Mars, and that SpaceX seriously believes in this goal.
SpaceX designed Starship to be mass-manufacturable for a reason, it makes no sense for them to retire starship before they've even landed several thousand people on Mars.
Falcon 9 has already had a service life of 13 years and its probably going to keep flying until 2030, which would give it a full service life of 20 years, and it isn't designed to be even nearly as manufacturable and cheap as starship.

Galactic somehow keeps finding more suckers to raise cash or get loans from. They had a billion in cash on last Q4 report and -130M/Q burn rate which would last them well into 2024.
Orbit only had 71M at end of Q3 and a -30M/Q burn rate. Add in the failure in Q1 2023 and it was over unless they could find more investors.

I’m not trying to be a pessimist though, I personally think Venus is proooobably still volcanically active in some places.

It was so unlikely, but it happened. At launch it was supposed to have TWR of 1.25, but one of its five engines failed, resulting in a TWR of around 1.00. Then the vectored thrust from really good avionics kept it upright while it moonwalked the fuck away through an open fence gate.
Once it had burned off enough fuel it ascended, but there was no chance of orbit.

I've always wondered why /sfg/ was more /launch vehicle general/. Spaceflight isn't just Falcon 9 and Starship. There's satellites, rovers, landers, the ground segment, software and data analytics, mathematical modelling. Literally everything has a spaceflight application.

/sfg/ also tends to talk about in space propulsion, but the most exciting ones are either a regulatory tarpit (NTP) or require testing outside of Earth's magnetosphere which is stupidly expensive because of both launch costs and DSN dish time (magsails/e-sails). The Space Force is working on laser power beaming in space but nobody is testing things like laser thermal propulsion because again, expensive.

Those exotic propulsion systems are in turn required for serious manned interplanetary flight outside the narrow slice of Earth-Mars runs that SpaceX designed Starship to do.
