He won't divulge the exact details of how he's doing it, but I did find an article that claims all he is doing is passing 10,000 volts through them. Is this possible?

Sure it is. Watermelons are mostly water right? Pass a strong electric current through the water to heat it and it makes a steam explosion.
Where he is getting that many volts with what is undoubtedly a fuckton of amperage is beyond me.
