To add fractions you have to make the denominators the same.
Say you want to add 1/3 and 1/2.
Multiply 1/3 by 2/2 to get 2/6.
Multiply 1/2 by 3/3 to get 3/6.
2/6 + 3/6 = 5/6.

I remembered this much, but wasn't there a trick to doing it with numbers that don't have an obvious LCM? And after that wasn't there a trick to simplifying the end result? I actually did try to use youtube but it didn't help...
