I have little optimism. The original KSP is a shit game and I'm tired of pretending it's not. The fact that it's possible to have fun with it anyway doesn't mean it's not a shit game.

One question that always kinda gets me.

What would a space force look like? Like the air force or the navy? Of course someone would say that a mix of both, but then the next question would be, to which would it be closer.

On one hand a navy has to deal with living inside technologically complex machines in which they can spend years if necessary.

On the other hand the air force has to deal with platforms with very limited payloads and small crews in 3D environments.

Our current Space Force is not really representative, not only because it only deals with satellites but also because many there come from the air force so might as well be an extension of AF culture and organization.

it's got unique requirements created by the nature of the medium of operation that make it fundamentally incompatible with either air or naval forces as they currently exist, and it really only makes sense as a separate branch

as for experience by the crew, it's likely to be most similar to submarines... except completely without the stealth component. hopefully a similar mindset to European/American naval warfare can be adopted, where the first enemy of every crew is the sea (or in a space force's case, space)

as an aside they'd better be planning to build a USS Enterprise cislunar flagship

>s there any type of food or method of cooking that would greatly benefit from 0g?
Well, as you mention things with air inside will probably expand further, but they would take a more spherical form which would actually make them harder to eat.

But for the rest? A blender for some centrifugal force will be more than necessary, but essential since for example, making pasta requires stirring and mixing which in an environment in which everything gets pushed around in every direction would make it really hard.

Soups would be easy tho, just drop the water on a bag with the ingredients, close it and heat it.

Salads and similar foods with fluids would be hard to eat, unless they are packaged or somehow contained, since the oils and salts and other particles would start spill and fly around.

There's also ideas about using a further upgraded HTV-XG version to resupply Gateway. How much resupply Gateway actually needs with it's limited occupation and Dragon XL already contracted is an open question.

There's also a steady stream of ideas coming out of Europe for using the ATV as an independent space station or a domestic crew vehicle. Those never get any traction but they were well-researched enough to get the ATV's system bus used for as the basis Orion's service module.

>In the right circumstances, Mars's surface temperature (the actual temperature of the air you'd feel) can reach as high as 70 Degrees, what would be considered a pleasant spring day on Earth.
>Put on the masks from Avatar
>Put on an F-22 counter-pressure garment over my chest
>walk out the airlock and experience Mars like a chad for a few minutes before I get the bends/ too much radiation exposure
I couldn't find any major issues associated with low pressure that can't be solved with a face mask since having a hard time breathing and mucus and eye fluid evaporation are the main issues, besides pulmonary barotrauma, which is easily fixed by wearing something tight fitting over your chest, (it literally is just being able to injure your lungs by being able to take too big breaths.)
Another note, from what I've heard, the bends can be alleviated by slowly depressurizing the airlock since in diving, you can prevent the bends entirely by swimming up to the surface in sections and taking a short break in between each layer of elevation.

Nah, they'll just fill it as much as possible until the TWR of the whole stack is low enough to reach Saturn V tier, even with max throttled engines. Over time payload will increase enough for tankers to bring a pretty absurd amount of fuel up in one go, and I think SpaceX is anticipating this. Just look at how Falcon 9 started with a payload to LEO of 20,000 lbs with 1.0 all the way to 50,000 lbs with Block 5. I doubt that Starship's improvement will be that drastic, considering that they're starting off with all the knowledge they knew after Block 5, but the massive improvements between Raptor 1 and 2 are still a good sign that they're far from peaking at the start.

It costs SpaceX ~$300K to make a sat, with ~4000 sats in orbit, thats's ~$1.2B in hardware alone. Then 4000/58 starlink per F9 avg = 69 F9 launches x $30M = $2B.

$4.4B in cost alone for that. Divide that by 2 years and we have $2.2B per year. Add in additional ~$100M per year in cost of operations for support/employees/etc. That means per year, they're probably doing ~$2.3B per year in cost and $2.64B in revenue. So that leaves a "profit" of ~$340M right now for this year. Ofcourse that profit will be used to cover last year's $2.3B cost.
Next year, with 2M customers, at 5% business users, that would net them $3B/y and $2.28B from non-commercial. Total of ~$5.28B. Writing off the first year's $2B debt, they will now have a profit of ~$3.3B next year

Launched by H-IID rocket into suborbit and
separated at about 85km altitude, the orbiter is
further accelerated by its own propulsion system and reaches an initial parking orbit of about 250km altitude.
Several configurations of H-IID are under study for feasibility and the configuration of H-II core stage with six solid rocket boosters (SRBs) was assumed as a reference launcher. the propulsion system flight sequence is as follow:

-four SRBs are ignited at the pad and the
vehicle lifts off
-the remaining two SRBs are
ignited at the altitudes prior to the
former set of SRBs burning out
-then the cryogenic engine(LE-7) of the core
stage is ignited prior to the last set of SRBs
burning out, and each set of SRBs is jettiscpled
soon after their burning out
- core stage engine burns out at the altitude of
about 85km and the orbiter is separated.

Recent studies about the unmanned winged recovery vehicle called the HOPE concluded that the H-II rocket does not have enough launch capability and H -II derivatives are desirable for launching the
HOPE. Typical concepts of H-II derivatives under study, shown in Figure 16, are a cluster of solid rocket boosters, a cluster of liquid oxygen/hydro-genboosters, and a hydro-carbon booster concept. The propulsion systems of these concepts are essentially the elements of the H-II rocket

Japanese launch vehicle propulsion - Status and direction. , (), –. doi:10.2514/6.1991-2513

1991, so earlier than the other studies, with a lower payload number (15 tons vs 22 tons)
I suspect this is with base H-II SRBs, since a H-II with 6 SRB would indeed weight around 540 tons, while the 22 tons variant was supposed to use larger SRBs with twice the thrust

The size
of the 10 ton HOPE is the limit payload of H-2 rocket
capability as well as the limit of the launch pad
facility without need of modification.
The launching rocket of the larger sized HOPE is specifically
specified to H-2 derivatives which mean little major
modification of H - 2 1st stage and H-2 launch pad.

It isan essential condition for the launch pad facility with
compatible uses of H-2 and H-2 derivatives. Under
these conditions, various H -2 derivatives were studied.

Increasing numbers of H-2 SRB to 6 and providing
with in orbit ignition capabilities for both of LE -7 and
two of the six SRBs in ascending orbits, the six SRB-H-2 derivative can have launching capability of the
20ton HOPE into LEO.

Three H - 2 core stages clustered configuration has launching capability of the
25ton HOPE into orbit. However, the largest H - 2
derivative of three H-2 core stages clustered requires a
new launch pad facility.

So far,the 20ton HOPE
launched by the six -SRB -H-2 derivative is the only
feasible solution. Figure 5 shows the 20ton HOPE
base line configuration

USSR tentatively had super-heavy lift launcher plans after the N1, called Vulkan. Vulkan would’ve been pretty much Soyuz-5 of today.
No idea about Japan. They were good with flying copies of Delta rockets, so maybe we would’ve seen some Delta III esque vehicle
ArianeSpace built Ariane 5 because of Hermes. Hermes was so fat because it was a spaceplane. Maybe if they made a capsule, they could’ve kept flying Ariane 4?

Supposedly the reason was just "cause I can lmao"

The deluge isn't needed for OFT, retards.

I mentioned this in another thread, but there is no requirement in their flight profile that would need them to blast off the stand at 100% power. The 33 engines, fully fueled, fully loaded, only need to be brought up to somewhere around 72%. During that time frame, the pad is only exposed for a handful of seconds, and only they have gotten off the pad they can dictate when they should increase the throttle to 100%.

The 50% throttle was clearly a test if the not-cement would explode. It didn't. So they should be able to get away with a bit more power.

Ariane 5, almost certainly not
it was initially just Ariane 4 with Centaur-like big hydrolox upper stage
Ariane 6 in that scenario would probably be that H60 stage with new lower stage (probably kerolox, probably end up using (ex-)Soviet engine like Atlas III and V)

Soviets had so many excellent engines to pick from it's ridiculous and I don't think they would go with hydrolox first stage on their own
the fact Russians instantly abandoned hydrogen speaks for itself

H-II is harder to say
I imagine they would license whatever Americans would have been using instead of Shuttle.

CSI literally did the math before the SF ever happened. The material they used can handle the full stack, and the SF @ 50% proved that since the water would have boiled off and caused an explosion even at 50% if it was an actual concern with this new ground material. It didn't happen well beyond a temp when water boils, so it won't happen at an even higher temp because water doesn't arbitrarily change it's boiling point when pressure remains static, idiot.
