Well it takes effort in tracking. Also you don't really wan to just lose weight, what you want is to lose fat.
Easiest way is just tracking your calories and eating at a deficit every day. Track your losses by measuring your waistline, its a much better method in case you are also gaining weight from muscle.
If you want to gain muscle while losing fat, you can follow a high protein diet while on a calorie deficit and have a steady resistance training routine. I've dropped from 30% to 18% bodyfat this way. If you use myfitnesspal its very easy to make it work.

Here's what I did to lose 30 lbs of fat in a shorter period of time than that. I bought pic related to do weekly body composition checks. Using a scale with only footpads or a handheld bf% device will only find your fat in part of your body. The scales with both footpads and a handheld sensor will be far more accurate. If you want to be more sure, do what I did and get a DEXA scan to calibrate the scale against.
Ok, so now you have a way of determining your body fat somewhat accurately (do this first thing in the morning to eliminate as many variables as possible). What do you do with that information? The Minnesota Starvation Study determined that the male body (hope you're not a chick) is on average able to process 0.8% of stored body fat into usable energy per day without catabolizing muscle.
How do you use that information? Get your weight and bf% from the scale to determine how much total body fat you have. Multiple that by 0.008. That will tell you how many lbs. of body fat you can burn in a single day. Multiple that by 3500 to get the maximum calorie deficit you can be in that day. If you're morbidly obese, early on you can theoretically get by on only energy from stored body fat but you need supplements for certain nutrients so you'd need to consult with a doctor for that approach. But if you aren't that fat, you can do ok by eating healthy while sticking close to your calculated maximum calorie deficit. I recommend always round down on these calculations to give yourself a margin of error since food calories aren't exact and neither are exercise and RMR calories.
Here's an example. Let's say I am 180 lbs and my bf% is 33%. That means I have 60 lbs of stored body fat. Multiply that by 0.008 and I can lose a maximum of 0.48 lbs of fat on that day. Convert that into calories and you get a maximum calorie deficit of 1680. Push that down to 1500 as a safety measure, and you're still near your maximum theoretical fat loss for the day.

if you eat nothing, and do nothing, you will burn about 2000 calories a day, it takes +-7000 calories to burn 1 pound, so if you live a sedentary life it will take just over 100 days to burn 30 pounds of fat. But that would be 3 months just drinking water and taking a multivitamin, no exercise needed. If you exercise the journey is easier but you also have to eat something, if you can stay within 1500 calories and exercise daily, let's say you burn 500 calories, that means you would probably burn another 500 for muscle repair and stuff ( your base metabolism goes up if you exercise, that means even if you take a couple of days off your body is still using extra energy to repair ).. that's how i did it i was eating under 2k calories a day, i would run every other day and do body weight exercises on the days i didn't run, lost 40 pounds in under a year, no loose skin, i was pretty happy about it, i do have stretch marks on my side quads, not sure why, i did have fatty legs
