Sure for "fun" topics he is also into like you said this is true.
But everytime a guest talks about something Rogan has little knowledge of(which are obviously many things) Rogan just tends to accept it as truth with 0 fact checking or pushback and most his audience will do the same which can be a problem.
I'm not even talking about any covid stuff, mostly just stuff I've seen on youtube before he switched to spotify.

But man do I cringe with the host.

>Asks a midwit question

The high quality guests + long format makes me tolerate the host's cringeness.
Long format makes it ideal to listen to during hours long drives. Better than radio and doesn't require as much focus on the content as audiobooks.

Are there any episodes of this guy that are actually worth watching?
To me, it seems like he is "controlled opposition" to someone like Joe Rogan. Someone higher up wanted to have more control over The Narrative, so they picked this guy, and built him up that way, which is how he was able to get so popular in such a short amount of time.
I'm highly skeptical of anyone who gets popular without much of a reason behind it.
For example, "Liver King" exploded out of nowhere, and I was instantly skeptical. Turns out, he's a plastic-surgery, steroid-using, trust-fund guy who had an entire PR team supporting him.

i think its more simplistic than that and he just had rich parents to propel his career (likely even bought off youtube to recommend his shit to everyone).
then he makes his videos very simplistic but still seem intellectual on the surface so people attracted to the 'idea' of intellectualism (redditors, edgy teens, and undergrads) watch it while still not communicating much.
check his most popular videos and its all reddit intellectualism like political moderates, space, lay metaphysics and finance.
it also helps to have any notable figure under the sun be a potential guest so lex just nods along and keeps the ball of conversation flowing about the surface of any given topic.
its also hip now to get all your knowledge from youtube or various internet video distributors instead of reading.
if it really was controlled opposition, its really retarded because all lex fridman really pushes for is 'both-sides' whataboutism and moderate libertarianism.

In my opinion his best podcasts are the Jim Keller ones, so you can find an abundance of examples from those, e.g. here from 17:53 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb2tebYAaOA he asks such a simple - almost dumb in a way - question which actually has quite an interesting answer.
Another example I randomly found is here from around 39:00, and he asks a follow up at 40:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUHkhB366tE where again it's this simple-minded question that yields an interesting answer because the guest is captivating.

Here's a list of all of Alex Fridman's academic papers.
As a researcher, the first thing I notice is that all of these are basically either extremely simple papers about a code that he created by himself or with friends, a thought-experiment about a certain topic, or a re-working of a previous paper into something "new".
I work in clinical trials, so the papers I read range from case studies, to clinical studies with hundreds/thousands or patients, to systematic reviews/meta-analyses that can take years and hundreds of people involved.
It's only recently that anyone has started to cite his papers, and it doesn't appear that he got any patents or licensing deals from them, or anything like that.
I'm not sure if this is "pseud" level, but it almost seems like it's an attempt to publish a lot of bullshit just to say that you've published a lot.

Kek, Steve Bonnell is one of the dumbest (if not THE dumbest) political commentators I've ever heard of.
He both advocates for large government and "freedom", but doesn't understand that big government is completely stifling to free markets, competition, and creativity. He campaigned for Joe Biden, lmfao.
But this isn't /pol/, which is why I didn't bring up any political commentators and was only focusing on science, of which Lex Fridman is most definitely a midwit, and therefore his podcast isn't worth listening to.

This becomes clear if you look at his publications; he seemingly wanted to publish as much as he could, knowing that most people would never read them, he could just use it to say "look how much I've published!"

If he had any good ideas, he would've patented them, started his own company, sold them to a larger company, or gotten a job at a larger tech firm.
I guess he figured there was more money in being a grifter.
