Is age reversal more than just a creepy fetish? Will we be able to end aging in our lifetime?

No

it said the only the old mouse was injected with the enzyme, making it age faster. all they did was speed up aging.

>Is age reversal more than just a creepy fetish?
I was unaware itb ever was a creepy fetish.
>Will we be able to end aging in our lifetime?
Possibly. Depends on which model of ageing is correct.
If it's the transposon theory of ageing, we will be done within two decades.
If it's the epigenetic model of ageing, it could take a few decades more.
If it's the synthesis model of ageing, it could take a really really long time.
Anyway, Aubry is a retard and a bit of a con man, he does really old shit and passes it off as new.

I don't know who Aubry is but I have noticed this David Sinclair guy using some really obvious webcam filters lel.

Is there anything you suggest reading on the topic?

Yeah, David is a fraud too. Or atleast a bit of a cunt. Publishing obselite 20 yo shit like it's new.
Anway, the starting point is reading the haulmarks of ageing:
"The Hallmarks of Aging" by Carlos López-Otín et al
And in my personal opinion, the transposon model of ageing is correct, so if i were you i would also read up on that.
"The role of retrotransposable elements in ageing and age-associated diseases" by Vera Gorbunova et al
Anyway, i did a quick paint sketch a while back when some one asked how ageing works. It's just some shit i threw together in 1 min, but maybe it helps.

>in the future
>reverse aging is complete, released to the wide public
>a huge wave of suicide and suicide attempts comes after 80 years
>wave never stops, people only now realize the mind is not built to live 150 years and over
>"happiness" drugs are synthesized worldwide, becomes over the counter drugs
>these are similar to heroin but lighter, the substance itself is not addicting but people over the age of 100 must take it else they know they will kill themselves
>after taking the drug for long enough, people become zombies, cruising through life just working, eating, shitting and eating without any sense of enjoyment
>circuses, musical shows, friend meetups, bars and restaurants become myth of the past

I'm glad I'll be long dead before this era of emotion death comes.

consider this the good ending.

Thanks, do you think there's much that can be done in the near term to improve ageing besides the obvious sleep, diet, and exercise?

>> No.15169150

>>15169121
Right now? eeeeh. There are things you could do, but much of it is untested on humans, as by law, ageing is not a disease, so we can't do medical testing. But you could try senolitics, clearing senescent tissue faster would do a lot of goog, giving a slight increase in lifespan but a significant increase in healthspan.

Interesting. I watched a documentary over a decade ago. It talked about senescence, mutations, some kind of caramel gunk made from sugars and fats that builds up between cells and interferes with cell replication, some other stuff I can't remember. I will look into that book because I haven't done much research since I got obsessed with folded proteins. Because it's a cure for everything.

I haven't really kept up to date over the years although maybe I should have.

The fact that you don't see space filled to the brim with thousand year old Aliens/Civilizations is proof that aging will never be cured

Why?

>> No.15170269

Thats just cellular restoration, its not reverse aging until the organism reverse mutates back into a younger stage like a woman turning back into a 13 year old.

It's impossible to revert a fully grown person to an infant, the purpose of anti aging is to reverse decay, not growth

I'm not even sure it's that. They basically gave the mice a genetic defect that makes them look old, like alopecia makes you look old by balding you prematurely. It's really not the same as actual aging.

>inmates given life sentences are now effectively forced to spend an actual eternity locked in a concrete box.
That's scary.

But I doubt that people would become emotionless zombies. I find it more likely that people who have lived for >100 years would start doing a lot of dangerous shit just to feel any kind of excitement. Duels used to be a way for depressed noblemen to honorably kill themselves, maybe they'd make a return.
