A relatively cheap mean of FTL is discovered tomorrow.
How does the world react.

World doesn't know - scientists who discovered it test it, send shit at FTL speed and thus back in time, fuck shit up and it is no longer discovered.

Yes, FTL is equivalent to "back in time" in quantum mechanics.

If light speed = instantaneous travel

faster than light must mean faster than instantaneous. Only possible conclusion is backwards in time.

Wormholes are valid, but disregard that retard anyway because FTL has nothing to do with wormholes.

bullshit. FTL physically cannot exist, time trave is impossible. plus no ones ever gone into FTL, thus we can only fantasize. in my opinion (if it were possible) it would either kill you, or split the dimensional boundaries. to quote Rodger Zelazny, you travel to a different shadow, giving a possible illusion of time travel.

Yes, time travel and FTL are equivalent. Equations work that way.

Not all the time. If you had any idea about the "equations" you are talking about, you would realise there are multiple solutions that don't involve time travel.

Also you COULD use wormholes for effective FTL travel, although technically it wouldn't be.

Also warp spacetime using the Alcubierre drive. That gets around the time travel issue.

in reply to your question... i have no idea. i've been readin to much Rodger Zelazny lately and i decided that FTL would be the mortal equivalent of Shadow waking.

>> No.1513779

>>1513703

light speed is too slow and the universe is too big

we need something "faster" to make deep space travel viable and able to circumvent general relativity

so far the best theories available are Alcubierre's warp drive and "wormwholes" but currently neither can be supported with current physics, maybe in the future but I don't think it will be soon, I'd like to be wrong about this but still...

Church raises Hell with "FTL travel is against God!!"
Extremists in mainstream political parties try to blow up companies offering FTL travel, as well as the equipment responsible directly.
Politicians race each other to see who can appear on global television and baselessly claim that "[they] *invented* FTL travel!"
Students continue to choose not to major in high sciences because "it's, like, too hard, dude..."
Scientists apply for funding to leave the solar system, so that they might finally be able to escape people they can't relate to (ie: mostly everyone), but are denied.
Species as a whole doesn't care, continues to ruin the planet while debating whether or not they're ruining the planet.

Yes, sorry about that. I forgot to include the high school children. Can't call them students in good conscience, I'm afraid- there are some that do study and try to learn, but at those levels it's not something they choose to do (unless they live in a country where it's not required to be in school to a certain level).
