Consciousness is not a subject for the natural sciences to discuss. It cannot be formally defined. It cannot be observed. It cannot be studied.
Philosophers can talk as much as they want about the problem of consciousness, but consciousness is close to meaningless and useless from a pragmatic perspective since it is so poorly defined. Anything said about consciousness could just as easily be said about pixies, jinn, qi, or any other imaginary beingstuff.
