ITT: Why community college rocks.

1) Costs like 25% of a full university or less.
2) No frats/sororities, probably no dorms, so there's no parties to feel depressed about not being invited to.
3) Less crowded.
4) Teachers are burnouts or failures and generally don't give a fuck, so classes are laid back and grading is easy. Things like studying and pretending you give a fuck about what's being taught aren't that important.
5) Students tend to be underachievers, so there aren't any insufferable smartass kissups sitting in the front row asking questions all period.

ITT: Why community college sucks.

1) Paying tons of money for a degree that won't help me get a job, especially coming from such a shit college.
2) No parties, so you're stuck being an antisocial loser for the rest of your life
3) Not enough people
4) Teachers are failures and don't give a fuck. So you don't learn anything and are fucking stupid compared to everyone else.
5) Student tend to be underachievers, so everyone around you is a failure, but still a narcissistic douchebag that thinks they're better than you and so everyone hates everyone around them. Also, there's no one around that's actually motivated enough to something important in their life.
6) I have to rationalize how much of a failure I am, how I will never do anything significant and every day fight off the urge to shoot myself.

Have fun in community college

>> No.1504872

All that is well and good.

But I was offered a full scholarship to my local CC in addition to an all expense paid trip to Europe during the summer to study abroad.

Turned it down because they had the most fucktarded engineering department ever (and this is supposedly one of the best engineering departments at a CC), and they hadn't sent anyone on to a top 5 school in my major in like ten years.

Said fuck this, I'd sooner pay tuition (albeit also with a scholarship, folks pick up the rest) at a top-5 in electrical engineering so I get the chance to interact with real profs and make grad school admissions less of an uphill fight (versus the unranked school the CC fed into)

I then spent the next 3 years at a shitty bottom teir state uni absolutely ACING everything (Math + CS). Now I'm a graduate at a top 10 school and have received two job offers paying 80k/ yr.

but if you've ever been in a top tier school, where the professors are brilliant both in instruction and practice, and the student body is also very bright and motivated and inventive, then being in CC will be like living in a public toilet after you've been raised in a 5 star hotel

The one in my town (DeAnza College in cupertino) consists of 50% overacheaving asians that got off the boat a little to late to go to highschool (and therefore apply to a real university) and are therefore in the college to take advantage of their transfer program. 25% people who don't have the funds to pay for a full university and are doing their gen-ed at home, 20% underacheivers, and 5% highschool students (either getting ahead or finishing their last year in the college)

In my state you can go to community college instead of your last two years of high school and the state will pay for everything but the books.

I went and did calc I-III, diff eqs, linear algebra, multivariable calc, G chem I-III, O chem I-III, Physics I-III and a couple english/elective classes while maintaining a 3.98 GPA because classes were extremely easy.

Everything transferred to the university I went to and I graduated 3rd in class because instead of getting mediocre grades in all of the weeder courses I took them at CC.

Also unrelated but my dad just has a 2 year CC degree, but he passed the FE and PE exams in electrical engineering 5 or 10 years after he graduated and is now a senior engineer at boeing, running his own lab with top secret clearance etc. Lots of people focus so much on getting the right degrees from the right colleges but what matters most of all is how good you are at what you do.
