You definitely need balance. It's not healthy to put all your eggs in going hermit mode and trying to be the smartest guy. I think its cope from people who all they have is their intelligence to say you can't do both or that you shouldn't. Many of my best ideas pop up as I'm talking about something with someone and sure yeah you can literally only study seriously on your own at the end of the day but that doesn't mean neglecting socialization will make you smarter
