Is there any scientific evidence for consciousness outside of the brain? Or is that it, we die and it is over?

Consciousness is embodied such that there's no center of consciousness but rather various parts of the body creates conscious moments that is fused to look like a single continuous consciousness.

If you plug a magnetic detector device to your nervous system, you're now creating a new consciousness flow whereby you can sense magnetic outlines.

Its not magic, its just the brain adapting to new sensors.

>> No.14970967

>>14970960
To add onto this, with enough practice you can trick yourself into thinking your thoughts come from anywhere. For example: try imagining for a bit your thoughts coming from your heart i.e. the center of your chest. Eventually it should stop coming from your head (where you imagine it now) and come from your heart.
I think people in the past did this same thing.

No, and that wouldn't make sense. Everything about you has a biological, physical basis.
Some people can't and won't accept that because for thousands of years most of the world made up beautiful comfy stories about death, the afterlife, your loved ones waiting for you somewhere, a greater purpose, divine judgment, etc. and a lot of people are indoctrinated from birth to believe in all of that with zero evidence needed.
And they need that because if you remove those beliefs from their life most of them will think that nothing matters and they may as well kill themselves.

So yeah, just make the most of your time here, enjoy what you like, spend time with your loved ones, chose what is the most important for you.

If consciousness is not outside the brain, whenever you stepped into a transporter, you would die and a copy of you would materialize on the other end. But this is impossible to verify because to every other observer you are still you. It would be impossible for anyone to verify if you are an original or a clone from observation of the physical body. Therefore we must conclude that there is some factor outside the body that defines such information.

It's both perfect and imperfect depending on your definition. Everything fits perfectly together, and all perspectives are "optimal" in their ability to process their states of awareness, yet the ego may create entanglements of unwanted experiences reducing the consciousness's freedom to imagine and expand itself. In practice, this means one can imagine their own fears and create more of them while trying to escape them. Consciousness is free, because there is nothing outside of it to limit it, but it is also free to become its own limitation.

I just don't understand why somebody would program a device in a way where everything is computed in the cloud. Imagine putting your phone in airplane mode and it just stops working, can't even use the calculator anymore. That's the equivalent of your consciousness living on a server somewhere, instead of in your brain. So would it only be certain things that get processed on the server, but stuff like vision still works with just your brain?

I also don't understand why animals don't communicate telepathically, if everyone is receiving data from a somewhere else. Again, I can send messages with my phone, but animals relying on smell and noise for communication is the equivalent of using your phone to send signals with the flashlight. Why would things not evolve to intercept messages from each other, instead of exposing their location to predators

There is no static thing in the universe in the first place, it’s like that quote, “In order to make an apple pie you must first invent the universe”. If consciousness is not purely physical then you can believe there is a concrete you somehow. Like every other physical interaction between particles and atoms and cells your brain is constantly reiterating and rewriting information and cells and neurons are always going poof or growing, if you remember the same memory twice in a minute it’s actually two different things. But this is unacceptable because you aren’t just an ever shifting and reiterating set of systems in a massive mess of interworking and interconnected systems within systems within systems within systems going from fundamental particles to galactic megastructures, you’re a thing! You’re real! You make decisions and believe and feel and respond based on your own volition, all the fuzzy wuzzies of physics stop with you. You’re a special drop in the ocean of water and I could fish that specific drop out without pulling out anything else, not even one extra molecule of liquid, just you.

I am not sure. There's so many points out there on this topic, it's hard to get through all of them. Formal reasoning can get you to both materialist and panpsychist answers. I tried to "prove" it to myself once with a very detailed setup, yet I found I could argue for either case. I am stuck in a loop after about 25000 logical operations. I am starting to think reasoning and any experience within this universe is simply not enough to arrive to a conclusion.

I agree with your perspective entirely but you don't need to be such a condescending dick to him, he's clearly struggling to cope with the nature of his own existence - which is entirely reasonable, we all have to do it at one point or another.

If it makes you feel any better, if the materialist perspective is to be believed, then it will be akin to going to sleep forever. it's sad that you die, but as long as you do everything you reasonably can and keep good relationships, the fact that it's ending isn't so bad. Even within our own lives things we care about die, and that's okay. It's a part of life.

I'm sorry you're thinking about this so much anon, I hope life is treating you well enough. and if it isn't, then I hope it gets better soon :)

NDE is filled with halucinating retards who think they fly and see jesus, depending on their culture and country.

Its simple as ..drinking water.
After we die it will be just like we never been born.
There will be no justice, no end, no peace.
It will be just like before we were born, complete void.
Thats a good thing for me because I want nothing to do with this world or the gods who created this shithole.
I dont want no heaven, I dont want no life after, I dont want the 72 virgins, I dont give a fuck about nirvana, I just want to stop existing.

>> No.14973646

>>14970630

1st premise: consciousness and mind are 2 different things: Mind is the ensemble of perceptions which are not body, consciousness is the unifiying substrate which perceives body and mind.

2nd premise: You can be a materialist and believe in an afterlife (Resurrection of the bodies), just like you can be a non-materialist and believe life is over after death (Mortal soul, like Aristotle and Spinoza believed)

That being said, even if we suppose mind is not the result of matter, there is still undeniable evidence that the two are connected in a psychophysical parallelism.
So by logic, if the body decomposes, even the mind should decompose.
Consciousness is immortal by definition, it can't decompose, but it is empty, it only perceives the non-perceiveness, an eternal sleep without time, which we cannot conceive.

So the only way to believe in a life after death is through faith, we don't have any scientific proof for that.

You can't prove otherwise, too. You have no evidence for being void after dying. You're just making word-salad to seem smart. You have mid-wit syndrome which is common among autists.
