It's not obvious to me. The sheer amount of factors to introduce only the most primitive forms of life is still out of our grasp. The emergence of intelligent life requires many insane coincidences to happen consecuitvely. We can analogize this to dice rolls, where the chance of the right circumstances for intelligent life emerging is like getting 500 nat 20 on d20s in a row. Even with a series of 4 billion dice rolls, it is still reasonable for that sequence to only happen much later in the dice roll sequence since it is so rare. In the same way, it is still reasonable for humans to be the only intelligent life in the universe, or even for there to be no intelligent life that has been around long enough for interstellar travel
