Fancy shapes that make some of the hardest physics calculations simple. Do we get to solve the universe now ? This news is a bit old now (10 years) but I haven't really seen it around in the last few years

In mathematics and theoretical physics an amplituhedron is a geometric structure introduced in 2013 by Nima Arkani-Hamed and Jaroslav Trnka. It enables simplified calculation of particle interactions in some quantum field theories
Amplituhedron theory challenges the notion that spacetime locality and unitarity are necessary components of a model of particle interactions
Edward Witten described the work as "very unexpected" and said that "it is difficult to guess what will happen or what the lessons will turn out to be
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amplituhedron

Interactions that were previously calculated with mathematical formulas thousands of terms long can now be described by computing the volume of the corresponding jewel-like “amplituhedron,” which yields an equivalent one-term expression

Once place I have seen it mentioned was in this interview with Cognitive scientist Don Hoffman who says he wants to combine metaphysics with regular physics and mathematics (including amplituhedrons) to work out how conciousness works. He talks about it at around 47:00. Also at around 1:06 to 1:10 he talks about physics + metaphysics + math too

Yes but how can it help in real life

it says what it does in the post

Why do all of these supposed "super high-IQ physics" papers seem to be all about metaphysics and sociological implications?

The Amplituhedron isn't. Just the video I picked does, where the guy mentions metaphysics and amplituhedrons in the same video. Amplituhedron s and metaphysics right now are currently unrelated

you should probably read that "Most scientists can't replicate studies by their peers" article
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-39054778

First of all, they did "a" study. The study was about reproducing 5 experiments. Then they did a survey of readers of a biology journal. Then the people writing the article are calling it a crisis. I see that picture on /pol/ occasionally and nobody's even reading the article

>he thinks physics is outside of the atomic interactions of his body and the electromagnetic field and charge of his brain
