What is the biggest most sci fi thing a random dude could do in his garage. Like a diy black hole or something.

Depends on how much money, talent and stupid you have at any one given moment. Let's assume you mean you want to experiment with electricity or explosives. You need to memorize and never fail to practice some safety procedures that are too numerous to go into on this website. If you are not too evil to work with, try getting a job in the power or explosives industry and before that, memorize all the relevant literature so you have an inkling of what you are attempting. You especially need to know what NOT to do. A whole lot more blah...

Start with making your own miniature power plant. (This one is surprisingly fun but you must take great care to do it safely.) A good few years as an electrician will give you some much needed experience and some money as well. You will be able to make your own power plant and or pick a decent commercial grade model, perhaps a backup generator. Do not make explosives in your garage. That won't just get you in a shit ton of trouble, it will bring your house down on you and everyone in it. Try working in the mining industry for a few years to learn basic safety and proper use of explosives. Alternatively, get some work with army artillery on the government's dime. This will help you later when angry people ask what the fuck you are doing experimenting with chemicals that can turn elitist smug pride into piddle in their pants faster than a trap tears their axe wound open trying to dilate with a traffic cone.

you can make a fusor, not even kidding.
tesla coils with signal input (for guitars etc.) are another option.

Measure a typical ball on a string demonstration and recognize that it does not do 12000 rpm as predicted, so the theory is wrong.

No scientist is capable of this simple task.

But any random dude can do it in his garage.

Friction is you grasping at straws and neglecting the evidence like a flat earther avoids evidence of sphere.
