I recently saw a woke leftist online effectively making the argument that hybridization always improves fitness and is always beneficial, because the topic came up in the context of race and they basically wanted to make an argument for miscegenation. This shit contradicts basic biology on a number of points. Hybrid vigor is a real thing, but it's certainly not a rule by any means. If hybridization were always beneficial, then speciation and evolutionary divergence itself would be selected against and would only occur in the context of geographic isolation (i.e. allopatric speciation), because hybrids would would always have a fitness advantage over the rest of the population. This is certainly not the case, as anyone who has studied biology would know, since this is the well known phenomenon of sympatric speciation. You would also have to be extremely ignorant of genetics, since anyone who has studied genetics knows that genes exhibit interactions with each other and these can be negative or positive, and genes tend to be inherited in groups (genetic linkage) that have be subject to co-selection. Hybridization can be a disadvantage in contexts where it interferes with genes that have been co-selected and inherited as a group.
