From my experience consciousness is nothing more than subjective awareness. It's not doing anything. It might be "paranormal" but only ever so slightly. It is or it isn't. There's nothing in between, no variations, no consequences, no actions that arise from it,...
Now, Sir Penrose's argument is about computation. He might be right, he might be wrong about quantum brains but I'm not sure what the connection to consciousness is supposed to be. You might assert that quantum brains are also the answer to consciousness but I don't see how this solves anything or why there is even a need for that.

I also like to point out that IgNobels rock. They're funny and wholesome, informal, low stakes, don't infect you with the Nobel disease, don't inflate your ego, bring good feelings for anyone involved, keep narcissists away, some even show real insight and originality in thought. 10/10 life goal.
