The real answer is even more fucked up than you probably imagined.
Bradley dosed those kids with benzedrine as a treatmemt for severe headaches when he accidentally noticed it also fixed their hyperactivity. And the severe headaches were caused by his decision to drain their cerebrospinal fluid and replace it with air in order to make it easier to X-Ray their brains.

Fun story, i was in school and they knew i had ADHD, they (psychologist or we) said coffee would make me focus better, everyday I would be forced to drink tripple espresso for 'peak performence'. Yeah the person who came up with this idea was retarded boomer reading quora all day, yes i couldnt focus for a second till lunchbreak and yes i couldnt focus past lunch break due to being exhausted. I was 13 at that time.
