Normally I'd say debates are for the viewer and the participants are probably not going to change their minds. However in this case I think those debates can be kind of damaging. If you aren't well prepared to debate a flat earther and your behaviour is questionable you might be giving the flat earther validity in the eyes of a layman who doesn't know any better. I have lost 1 friend at uni to flat earthism because he started watching poor quality debate videos and went down the rabbit hole. If he was smart himself that wouldn't be an issue but he's one of those students who is carried by others and can't hold his own weight.
