Most Chinese universities pay extra money for researchers per papers published. For this reason, chink researchers do a ridiculous amount of salami slicing (publishing multiple articles about a dataset that could be just a single one), orders of magnitude more than western researchers.

One person does the study and 43 others are all "co-authors', then each of those writes a paper and the other 43 are all 'co-authors'.

Thus you have midwits with literally hundreds of papers they have 'co-author' credit for.

China has MANY brilliant scientist and engineers, BUT scientific papers have been so abused that they are not a good way to evaluate a person in China.
