Doesnt matter.

A. Aliens receive our message, they are so close to us they already know about us.

or the more likely,

B. The radio waves travel for thousands of years, probably outdating human civilization by the time they arrive somewhere.

If aliens are not already here, (perhaps humans ARE the aliens?) then they will never arrive, unless they invent some way to travel through space by "wormholes", which is most likely just scifi fantasy.

Might as well invite them over. We've all gotta die. I'd much rather get vaporized or whatever by some alien than get butt cancer.

>> No.14720906

If Aliens are capable of exterminating us then they probably already know we are here. Humans sending out messages into space is like a primitive tribe making smoke signals while being observed by a modern satellite.
Given that Humanity has effectively trapped itself in the gravity well through squandering our resources then Aliens arriving is the best hope for survival. If the Aliens are benevolent, then lucky us. If the Aliens are malign and wipe us out, then we merely proved ourselves unworthy of survival.

Not really on topic but a solution to the Fermi Paradox I find interesting, the universe is full of space fairing species that all hide because those that make themselves known get killed. They see us transmitting and know we are inviting death but can't warn us without giving away their own location.

>>14720906
If they plan to kill us there is no reason for them to come here, just send a kinetic kill vehicle and chill.
Makes sense as a survival strategy too, wipe out any space capable species before they become a problem.

What's fundamentally wrong with "dark forest" if the Fermi Paradox exists?
I say "if" because with a sample size of one we have no fucking idea how common high intelligence is.

>> No.14720981

>>14720949
The assumption for dark forest is that all life will forever be static in behaviour.. Its stupid. Humans evolved from monkeys. We're not the same morally/ethically/civilly. Mammals are different from bugs. As mammals can adopt and raise other mammals due to empathy.

If we even assume any level of technological growth or civilization growth, then far future evolution would not be limited to hunting of another animals/civilizations for food/survival. Especially not for raw resources as the universe is filled with it, if the civilization is dumb enough to still not surpass the raw materials shortage issues.

>>14720981
Especially since we're at the cusp of atomic manufacturing. Which would literally mean an extremely rudimentary level of star trek's replicator level technology. From atomic manufacturing would lead to atomic re-structuring manufacturing, which could lead to endless amount of anything anyone ever wanted. As the very fundamental atomic constituents would be at the fingertips of our civilization. That means extremely dense energy sources to power the very machines, gold, platinum, air, water, etc. That's just a distant tech tree that may be possible if we look far enough from just 1 of our tech tree line. If we do a extrapolation into the nano technology or bio nanotechnology or robotics, that could lead to another level of semi-human/machine body. We don't even need to solve the hard problems of brain issues, just replace everything below the head. Replace the eyes/ears/mouth/face/skin with artificial as well. If we ever figure out the hard problem of consciousness, then we may even surpass the last vestigial remnants of flesh. Which would mean no need for biological food consumption. On another front, we could have the so called "ideological" front. If we ever move past the consumption/material ownership of things aspect, for whatever reason (extreme abundance, extreme lack of want, etc), then what remains may simply be pursuit of further knowledge. Even that could be solved by machine intelligence augmentations where we can simulate everything and anything down to the nth level of atomic scale. Finally the last remaining semblance of predatory aspect would be motivation, what motive would be left if humans can have anything/everything we ever wanted with our technology? Immortality? Power of super saiyans/superman via biocloning extremely durable bodies, endless sex (for lower end of the civilization), endless food, endless laziness, endless creativity, endless thought, endless computation power, endless knowledge, etc.

We all know the aliens use faster than light subspace communication systems. Communicating by radio waves is too primitive and slow.

>> No.14721033

>>14720981
This is just opinion because we have no data but I can't see herbivores existing without carnivores / omnivores turning up sooner or later for the high energy density prey offers. Any species that comes from a planet where animals are either hunter or prey is going to have survival instincts built around the threat of violence, either applying or avoiding.
Even if they are completely peaceful they know violence exists in nature and this will form part of their psychology / culture.
IMO post scarcity only eliminates the concept of violence if you have never seen an animal kill for fun.

>> No.14721043

>>14721033
Any civilization that has techs to leave their local solar system will have advanced far enough to not care about biological foods scarcity since they would have to solve the food issues on their planet, on their solar system, neighboring systems, etc. To the point that they could simply extra trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions of tons of raw materials available within their own solar system for food creation. Better yet, they would come up with efficient means of food consumption as they scale up their society, unless they wish to implode on their own and not make it past their own planet.

>> No.14721049

If they were out there, earth's atmosphere would have already pegged us as a point of interest millions of years ago

>> No.14721050

>>14721043
As I said I believe it's the concept of violence that would inform hiding, if you have seen an animal kill another in nature you know it's possible that space fairing species could be killers.
I'm not saying they have the need to kill but knowing killers exist changes the game.

>> No.14721070

>>14721050
Humans aren't hiding from other humans unless in extreme rare conditions. 10,000 years ago, we were like any other animals where we would hide from one another. Monkeys are similar to humans 10,000 years ago as well, maybe less primitive.

With advancements in civilizations, we've learned to negotiate out a peace. If a civilization exists out there with a technology, regardless of whether they're a carnivore or omnivore, they would learn to negotiate with their own kind and others around their level, lest they destroy each other.

>> No.14721074

We aren't talking about hiding from your own kind, we are talking about the dark forest solution, hiding from the unknown because you don't know what's out there.

Dumb, all things start at local level first. If they can't solve local problems, then they'll be stuck in local level.

>> No.14721081

>>14721077
Particularly, in the case of humans and biological life in general, we're all here due to our negotiation skills with our neighbors. Literally. Our body is made up of trillions of tiny cells who are negotiating with each other, negotiating with trillion other viruses/bacteria many of whom are part of our dna and many others are in symbiosis relations with ourselves. Many of whom can fight off destructive foreign invaders, as well.

imagine trying to cajole with a alien civilization when on Earth we cant even keep our own nation-states from collapsing within... there's a reason why we have retards trying to prove advanced aliens are real, because if they were actually real we would be seeing them in the sky all the time and communicate (there's no way the governments could hide something that big, quit the bullshit) all advanced alien civilizations like us will either die out or have reached a point of advancement where this universe is simply none of their concern to intervene in

Human society today isnt what the society will be 1000 years from now, 10,000 years from now. It wasn't same as 100 years ago, 1000 years, or 10,000 years ago.

Let alone extrapolating human civilization today towards an alien society thats 10000+ years more advanced than us some thousand light years away from us.

>> No.14721121

>>14720760
This is retarded no alien will attack us. If they send shit over we could be living on more then one planet or have habitats in space and we would just send shit at them. Its all larp about "muh aliens attack us first means they kill us first XDDDD" which is 100% wrong why would you assume that.

If we first strike them they probably store all their weapons in space too (why would they even be on the planet?) so they will just fire shit at us after seeing where it was fired based its trajectory and making predictions. Do retards even think about this shit? They could have little firing places literally all over the solar system. Really its like the cold war with nuclear bombs and space stations are like subs. You can theoretically wipe out all the launch sites with your nukes but you have no fucking idea where all their subs are at and they will just return fire. Not worth the risk for any party

So no we can talk to any alien we want there is no risk.

>> No.14721132

>>14721049
This here; any civilization capable of building weapons that can attack other star systems will also need to be able to build an ass load of giant space telescopes, to actually aim the damn things. Said telescopes could easily be used to do stuff like spectrographic analysis of other planet's atmospheres. Basically, to any species that can attack others, the galaxy is not a dark forest, but instead a plain of tall grass.

>> No.14721144

>>14721132
This
Its not a dark forest its actually really easy to tell if some thing has life based on if there is oxygen in the atmosphere. If there was a first striking aliens we would of been blown up by now since there has been life on earth on the surface for quite a while. For a few hundred million years. Either aliens don't first strike because its retarded and you are begging for return fire from space stations ie not on the planet you blown up or there is no aliens with this capability close enough to get our atmosphere composition.

Why not the probability that 2 or more advanced species occupying the same window of time close enough to notice each other is infinitesimally small
What if they have found artifacts but nothing that is still alive
What if they found something that is an artifact, but fear exploring it awakens it

It could be a core secret of only one government on earth
They know where this artifact is but it is one of the most secret of secrets that only 1 person in the government knows and they’ve decided that it’s better that way

I think everyone here lacks the comprehension of compartmentalization and doesn’t believe it exists
But it does, there are some secrets only a few people in the world’s intelligence agencies know

It’s just easier to argue about impossibilities than go for something more probable

All the killjoys just immediately reach for the “durr we’ll never know sci fi I’m interested only in my gay highly specific scientific area of expertise”
