has anyone here even used higher math in actual applications? like writing an application that utilizes the underlying mathematical theory? I don't see for instance how measure theory can be used in an numerical algorithm.

no one uses higher mathematics in applications. otherwise it wouldn't be called higher.

what kind of stupid take is that now?

Nothing higher than probability, statistics, differentiation, integration, matrix factorization over the real or complex numbers, a bit of topology.

how have you used topology in an application?

not really possible unless you also construct hardware which can make use of alternative advanced processes. otherwise whatever you code will be reduced to arithmetic in the compiler or interpreter.

yes. hidden information in TCP/IP fields, random numbers that appear random but really are just utilizing higher maths. I used an LFSR and something to do with mersenne primes, i cant remember. coded a listener BSD sockets style. You could port knock a machine without directly referencing to get it to open a port, it was neat.
