Does this plot mean every physics graduate has an iq of around 130?

This plot shows physics grads have an average iq of about 130, could you make it through with an iq of say 100?

>> No.14553791

no, it means the average is 130. Some are above, some are below. It probably assume normality, and that most are closer to 130.

Some people can. I'm sure you're not one of them

I means:
Of female students who took an IQ test they were also asked to list their major. When every major was sectioned off they took all the values of those students in that section, added them, then divided by the number of students per section.

Make sense mathlet?

There's no valid source on the original site. I'm pretty sure what this actually was was a conversion of SAT/ACT or GRE scores for different majors. It's extremely unlikely that the avg 18 year old enrolling as a physics freshman in America has an iq of 130 but much more plausible that seniors with grades and research experience that would warrant an interest in a PhD would score well enough on the GRE to see those kinds of avgs. Note also the very high score of philosophy and math people, this is reflected in known avg GRE scores where philosophy majors do exceptionally well, the best out of all humanitards, on the quant portion of the GRE. Also, worth looking at the unimpressive score for CS students compared to Engineers and Mathematics. If this is indeed prospective grad students you can't blame that on code monkeys, it would be a reflection of the field as a whole. That is CS is for people to stupid and lacking in curiosity to do Physics, Philosophy, Math. iirc Economics majors outscore CS majors on the GRE as well.

I have a physics degree, does this mean I probably have an iq of 130?

Significantly higher as Neil DeGrasse Tyson really brings the average down.

It clearly says students and not graduates. Many students never graduate.
